2011 New York Auto Show: 2012 Chrysler 300 S Featuring Beats by Dre Audio

IMG_2307.JPG

Chrysler rolled out what could be our (my) new favorite 300, the 300 S. It's de-chromed, features a blacked-out grille, body-colored accents and mirrors, black headlight surrounds and black chrome wheels. has piano-black or carbon-fiber trim replacing wood and can be adorned with Radar Red or black leather interior. It is, for lack off a better phrase, badass, and not "I-just-ran-over-a-fence" tacky like some other 300s we could mention.

The 300 S also features a Beats by Dre audio system with 10 speakers, 552 watts and controlled via the 8.4-inch touchscreen display. Dr. Dre, if we're to believe the set-in-L.A. promo for the system, tuned the system to his liking.

Now, if only we can cram the 465-horsepower 6.4-liter Hemi into this instead of the V6 or the 363-horsepower 5.7.

So they rolled out a car with a Dr Dre tuned audio package on 4/20.

Hey, Chrysler, I see what you did there.

This is sad… I guarantee Eminem had to put in a word for his “homie” when Chrysler came calling. I give it two months till we see the Eminem I’m.sorry.to.my.fans-I.Love.you.Hailie edition 200.

Jokes can be made about the Dr. Dre association, but if the speakers in this car have any relation or tuning input from the engineers who created the Beats headphones for Monster, or any high-end Monster product (I have the Monster Turbines that are bar none the best headphones I've ever owned), then the sound system in this car should be something really awesome to listen to.

I like it.

@standingwave, maybe you aren't aware of the dr. dre line of monster products, I don't necessarily like anything that comes from monster, but they seem to be selling great and has his named attached to HP computers so I guess its legit. Its just a coincidence that they use eminem for an ad and an audio system with dr. dre's name on it.

Nice execution, Chrysler.

Coolb944 is right -- the sound from this car's system, if the Beats line of headphones and earbuds are any indication, will be incredible.

I have never heard Monster products...are they really that good? How are they in relation to other products?

Horrendously over-priced with some really blatantly misleading claims.

@ BB

I can't say about the headphones or the laptop (although I'll say that as a Windows computer, as far as audio editing goes, it's probably trash.) However, the earphones are excellent. My friend has a set for his iPhone 4, and they have to be among the best I've heard. Very heavy on the bass though. Although for hip-hop, this is a good thing. Very well made, as well. The only downside is the price, but I feel that they are worth it. If only I had the cash to get them...

Btw, the 4/20 reference is clever. Ironic that Dre has a song titled "Kush" as well. Subliminal marketing perhaps?

Dr. Dre & Eminem have worked together since 1997 when Dre produced the Slim Shady album. Check Eminem's Wikipedia page for background.

While I'm no expert and don't current own any Beats products my understanding is that Beats is more about the tuning of a system's output than it is about raw power, hardware nuts & bolts, or anything like that. Dre's goal is to give the consumer the same audio experience that the artist has in the studio so that what you hear is what the artist heard when they created their music.

That's quite a lofty goal and I'm not sure how well it can possibly translate into vehicular audio. Still, I cannot help but admire the concept.

You can go to beatsbydre.com for info & to watch a Dre/Eminem video that, to make this car-related, shows a Ferrari tumbling end over end in an accident. It also shows a couple of upcoming HP products - the Pre3 and TouchPad (which will also have Beats audio).
