This heavily camouflaged prototype caught testing recently in the Detroit area suggests that GM is hard at work on its next-generation Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon full-size SUVs.
Now this might seem like a misguided strategy in the face of rising gas prices, but let's not forget what happens the second those prices level off. Yeah, people start buying big vehicles again, probably because they like them better than small ones. But who are we to judge.

And let's not forget that there will always be a need for a full-size SUV. It's not just soccer moms/dads who drive these things. There is and always will be a commercial market for these trucks. They're used by government, municipalities and businesses alike.

These shots are just as bad as those teaser shots Ford put out of the Explorer some months back.

GM could win big with this. I don't see any word of Ford or Toyota updating their big SUVs. Also, GM has scaled back large SUV production to a point where they are better able to weather large swings in demand. Only the plant in Arlington, TX builds these big boys..
So my only question is, is it Lambda based or is it still on the truck platform?

There will always be a Tahoe and Yukon, because they need to base a Escalade off them. And there is no way GM will get rid of the Escalade because thats Caddy's money maker.

Sad, but true.

My $.02:
I still see a market for the Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban (I've started calling them Tahburbukons), even if it is a smaller demographic. I live in Texas and there is plenty of families that need -not just wanting- a vehicle that can carry 8 people and still tow a giant trailer while going down horrible roads. GM may have to give in to selling less of them and keep working on making them more fuel efficient, but I don't see the "Big SUV" dieing off just yet.
As for the Escalade, there has been rumors of the next one being based on the same platform of Enclave/Traverse/Acadia, or one like it. Personally, I don't see that working if they cant get the proportions and driving dynamic just right.

Guys Guys, seriously check out that wheelbase... a fair amount shorter than a yukon/tahoe, there's no room for a third row, then check out those mud flaps hanging off the rear off the wheel arch, I'm surprsied nobody mentioned maybe a fullsize blazer type of spinoff? worked great back in the the 70's to about mid 90's, also look closely you can barely make out that corporate ten bolt axle and 6 lug off-road design rims plus that decent height difference to a Z71 tahoe front and rear over hangs are very short for any of those current models... Just My two cents here...

I agree with carluvr1, it looks like a midsize SUV.
It could be Buick's missing link (between the Enclave and the Encore)
