Spy Photos: 2012 Ford Escape Gets More Camouflage

 FordEscape.o3.KGP.ed.jpg

As we get closer to the release of the production version of the 2012 Ford Escape ( unfortunately we won't be seeing the Vertrek name here -- Escape has equity in this market) it seems that Ford is packing on more and more camo.

Previous spy shots have shown a Kuga with a tacked-on front bumper appendage and little else. More camo here means we're getting closer to the US-spec design. The overall shape will, of course, be carried over, but things like the front and rear bumpers as well as the grille could still be switched from the highly stylized Euro version.

I wish they would sell it just like that. Hey, at least you could find it in the parking lot and it would cut down on door dings.

Well, it is pretty much the way VW and Audi, e. g., ship their cars, instead of coating them in Cosmoline or plastic film--except they use white covers instead of black.

You can definately see the influence from the rest of Ford even through the camo. The hint of tail light you see really looks very Mazda-ish. The over all shape of the rear-end with license plate positioning looks overly bloated very similar to the Subaru B9....Not a good thing at all, hope that's just the shape of the covering.

PLEASE make the 2.0 DI turbo an option at release. If it looks anything like the concept and offers real power with decent economy, it will undoubtedly do very well. I'm dying to see the final specs on this as well as the upcoming Mazda CX5 (Minagi concept).

A little too late with the refresh to get my $$. I went small SUV shopping nearly a year ago and ended up with a Chevy Equinox...at the time nobody (including the old Escape or Edge) offered the same bang for the buck. I'm sure the new Escape will be a capable small crossover, but there is a lot more competition now than there was when the original came out.

I just purchased a 2011 Sportage SX on Monday. 256 HP and 27 MPG is almost unbeatable in the compact CUV market. That, and I got it loaded for less than $31k. Sportage also has the ALG best residual value rating in its class. I think Ford has a ways to go before they can touch that. The Sportage's interior has better plastics than anything Ive seen in a Ford lately.

I know second generation Ford Escape will more ugly model. it will cheaper less than currently Ford Escape. I know old Ford Escape will join to old Ford Explorer, Ford Ranger, Sports Trac will become classic Ford collection. I know old Ford Escape is type 50% traditional SUV and 50% crossover is great look and handsome like old Ford Explorer. I can tell you about I know next generation Ford Escape will become 100% crossover. it will become zero perfect traditional crossover.

kingon, I see the words. They are all words. I understand them individually. Maybe they would make more sense posted in your native language.

@gsta: i just looked at the sportage. i'm pretty impressed with Kia overall, i must say. however, after sitting in the new Edge, which blows the Sportage away in terms of style and quality, i'm inclined to wait for the new escape. if it can live up to ford's newest levels of quality, i think it'll match well with the kia and probably have better styling to boot.

I THINK THIS ONE WILL BE A SMASH HIT WITH THE BUYERS BECAUSE OF THE OVERALL NEW LOOK VERY SPORTY... I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THREE POWERTRAINS THOUGH THE FOCUS NEW FOUR BANGER THE EXPLORER ECOBOOST 4 BANGER AND THE MUNSTANG'S 3.7 WRAP IT ON IN AS THE SPORT MODLE

Well I believe Ford has dropped the bomb on the 2012 Escape. It has been there bed and butter for a decade. So now it is going from a family mover were you can put golf clubs or hockey equipement and still have room for the family. Now it is on the extremely small ford focus chassis!! So now it is not a family vehicle with towing compacity, it is student small car, so it should be great on gas but grap in the winter, and useless in the SUV market. It well cost them dearly. Plus a focus sells for 15k so with the escape label attached to it we are going to pay 38k for the same chassis and cargo space. We are not that stupid Ford.
