Fans React: "Keep the Evo Alive" Group Pops Up on Causes.com

"Mitsubishi, Keep the Evo Alive
Mitsubishi wants to discontinue or desecrate the Evolution. Let's show the company how many people disagree with its plan.

The rumors of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution's demise may or may not have been exaggerated, but the company sure isn't doing anything to make the fans feel any better. There are always reasons for sports / muscle car fans to be afraid, but right now, those closely bonded with the Lancer Evolution see an immediate threat.

And so, they've responded by creating a group on Causes.com, Mitsubishi, Keep the Evo Alive.

"We don't want a hybrid Evo or larger vehicle with another name that uses a similar 4WD system - the current recipe of the Evolution is what we need. If you agree, please join our cause."

They have 671 members so far and are looking for more. Check 'em out here.

Think it'll work? (Our odds 671:1 against)

The public have voted with their (lack of) checkbooks. Apparently EVO sales are way down, and have been going down for years. No amount of clamor to save it is going to do anything but fall on deaf ears.

Yeah, it worked for Original StarTrek, but only for one year. Same goes for several over TV shows.

Petitions, especially online ones are next to worthless.

If you want an EVO tomorrow, buy one today. It is as simple as that.

Like I said before, those that really wanted one got one. It really doesn't appeal to people outside of the video-game crowd. Besides, you have to take it to a track to really get the benefits of the car. In all other environments, you just paid way too much for an econobox sedan with a silly big wing.

i don't really care, i wanted one but its too expensive... if i wanted one now, i can get a used one within my budget. not really a travesty... most agree the older EVO's were better anyways.

Altimadude i see where you're coming from with the track comment but the same could be said for a Challenger, Mustang, or Camaro. There will always be a cheaper way to get around but that's not what people on this site are after is it?

The biggest issue with the Evo is that a large part of the fan base simply cannot afford to be customers. Fan boys buy used Evos to save money and, to be honest, get the better performing model (9 imo). Mitsu attempted to make the Evo seem more grown up with the X so it would appeal to a more mature customer but all that really happened was that the price went higher.

Bad decision. We may just have to live with the consequences.

My understanding is the EVO's buyers were essentially the same age as today's millennial generation

Today's Millennials are focusing on buying and using communication devices such as I-phone, I-pad, I-tunes, I-whatever-else-communicates. The car is of secondary importance to them. Indeed, many have held off getting drivers licenses.

We're also talking about a very expensive compact car, near $40K, with a relatively cheap low tech interior that does little for communication and entertainment a millennial wants (the same could be said for the WRX STI).

How many EVOS will Mitsubishi have to sell in the USA to make future EVO profitable? Certainly more than a couple of thousand units a year.

Frankly, as huyracing says, the older EVOS with on-off turbos, loud exhausts, go cart handling and ride, seem to be what EVO fans really want. Those EVOS are already here, sitting in various used-car lots, waiting to be driven.

if they will me a new evo that will be better. but if they will just stop it's production fans like me will totally get mad. i am a big fan of it from the start. i would rather suggest to them to stop placing california catalytic converter because it is not really a good factory option for an evo.

Guapito?

That is the most gay nickname I`ve seen here. Just wow!

I think it will only work if these "fans" will sign an agreement to buy 3 Evos every 4 years.

Mitsu doesn't need to sell many Evos. The image bonus the car brings to the company should be enough. They're sharing platforms anyway so the development cost can't be that big. By the way, the cause exceeeded 2,000 members today.

For all the folks saying this on-line action wont work, see all the Save Saab convoys from the past year. The Evo fans would do well to take a page from those folks.
