Hey, remember a couple of years back when Car and Driver stuffed a 599 GTB into a wall during a test drive in Italy? Well, obviously this is a very competitive industry and that was a gauntlet thrown. CAR magazine's Jethro Bovingdon has responded by pinging a Ferrari FF off a curb -- while speaking on camera.
Via twitter, Bovingdon says two rims were injured in the incident but they've still failed to produce photos. We drive a lot in this industry and things happen, and when they do, man up and take the picture.
Next level: Ferrari + wall during car-to-car video.
UPDATE: CAR has finally posted a photo.
( Youtube. Thanks for the tip, Dan.)

Did he actually hit the inside curbing? Looks like he was turning to the right and ran out and looked at the right side of the car. Maybe he's too used to LHD?
Either way, I've accidentally nicked a wheel on an inside curb before turning in too aggressively. Nothing as bad as this appeared to be, but it happens.

Accidents happen. I feel for him. I hope CAR's accounting department doesn't mind those repair costs...

I give CAR credit - it doesn't say reporter crashed or poor road conditions caued... no it says "We Crash the L230,000 FF..."
Anyways, they are going to get lots of hits on YouTube...
*DOH*!

His tweets:
Full story? Erm, hit a kerb, fooked two rims. Ferrari very calm about it. Me less so. Going to crawl under a rock for a few days.
(most recent) Now know what my gravestone will say: 'Here rests Jethro Bovingdon, the dickhead who crashed the FF. What a nob.'

@trackwrex
His most recent tweet earns himself his own Caption of the Day, IMO.

You gotta feel for the guy. Is he is a regular reporter CAR? If so, how many cars unfamiliar cars has he driven over the years? Had to happen sometime... too bad it wasn't a Hyundai or a Buick...

"How did that happen...", umm, I think you turned the steering wheel incorrectly.
Ah, whatever, everybodies curbchecked at some point, and I'm sure it's even eaisier to do in an unfamiliar car that your trying to drive fast. In reality his ego will be the biggest victim of this.

I can't imagine the panic you'd feel rising in your body as you realize what happened, then the future implications start to hit you. Ulp.

it is free publicity for all involved. The video will get linked everywhere, people who haven't ever been to their website will go there. Tons of people will see the Ferrari. It is a win win and all for the price of a couple of really expensive rims. Super cheap advertising if you ask me (which nobody ever does).
On a side note, so you are telling me that talking into a camera at your right while you drive is also distracted driving? Who'd of thought....

"Talking with your hands" is generally not a good idea when you're driving. The only person I've seen who can successfully drive fast AND speak intelligently at the same time is Tiff Needell.

I wonder if being LHD had something to do with it. But I'd imagine British journalists have to eventually get used to driving cars from/in countries that aren't mistaken about which side of the road one is to drive on.
Seeing the sense of humor from all involved is refreshing. I'm glad they're probably realizing the good publicity they're getting out of this. I hear Ferrari isn't exactly the easiest company to work with for journalists. I half expected them to say the car wasn't set up properly for that specific road and a properly set up Ferrari could never hit a curb.

I hit a curb in my then still-brand-new GT500. Thanks to some dingbat that doesn't know how to go around a traffic circle. The idiot pulled out right in front of me, driving at a snails pace!! I had to swerve right to avoid broadsiding the idiot and immediately swerve left to avoid running straight off the road. I was just a few inches shy of enough space to pull off the maneuver. Ended up hitting the curb and marring my front right wheel. I was ticked!! Now I have these gashes of exposed aluminum in my wheel. At least I know their aluminum wheels.
If I had been going much faster, it would have been a bent wheel and probably a blown tire. It was a nasty loud bang, too. I just knew I had some serious damage, and was just waiting for the TPMS warning to go off.
