Riswick: "How was the Geneva Auto Show? What was the highlight?"
Magrath: "It was good. Highlight? Did you know Skoda got a new logo!"
Riswick: "Show me!"
Magrath: "OK!"
Riswick: "That's the same."
Niebuhr: "No it isn't, they took the rounded Hamburger-Helper fingers off."
Magrath and Riswick: LoL
More Skodas after the jump....

I want me some Skodas, dagnabit! VW, if you really want to sell 800k vehicles a year, bring me Skodas.

I mean, I could care less about Seats, but Skodas I would like to see in the US. A good friend really enjoyed his Superb rental car in Germany and Austria. I have seen some Seats in the US with Mexican plates, and years ago the pre-VW era Skodas in Canada, but now Skoda are making some handsome and restrained vehicles that pack a big value punch for their price. Bring them here!

Volkswagen quality for quita lot cheaper than an actual Volkswagen. I'll take one.

I really like the Fabia. VW should bring them over to America and sell them at VW dealers.

Looks like Skoda is developing a distinctive personality. It would be nice to get them in the US if they can keep the price low.

Not that I don't appreciate the car coverage, but when do we get the post about the booth models? I ask only because I want IL to be fair in their coverage of course, the Paris ladies got their due.

Not that it is a great accomplishment in and of itself but Skodas generally attain much higher consumer quality ratings than the VWs from which they are derived. With VW building a factory in Tennessee to compliment their Mexican production it is even less likely that Skoda products will ever been seen in this market.

Are Skodas still made in Czechoslovakia? And does VW own Skoda, lock stock and barrel? None of the photos showed vehicles that I would put on my "must have" list. But, hey, bring 'em on. The worst thing that could happen is they fail. Wouldn't be the first time.
@northsparrow: They have "consumer quality ratings" in Czechoslovakia? (I just had to put Czechoslovakia in once more, well actually, twice more.) Didn't they sell them in the US at one time?
VW's ambition exceeds their capability and quality. I took a good look at the base Jetta at the Auto Show last night. With just an automatic transmission as the only option, the car was about 18K. For a 2 liter with 115 hp, solid rear axle, hard plastics (although VW is not the only one with that cost-cutter), and 29 mpg highway, it is hard to justify it when you can get a 2012 Focus with 160 hp for the same price-- or a new Elantra for less money. I guess VW has not grasped the concept of being competitive. Can you say "hubris"?

ed124c, a bit behind the times, are we? Skoda is in the Czech Republic, Czechoslovakia hasn't existed for about two decades now. Some VW and Audi models like Toureg and Q7 are made next door, in Slovakia.
They sell all over Europe, and are popular in most countries not bordering the Mediterranean, even in the UK. Unpretentious, well-built variations of existing VW models, since VW owns Skoda as well as Seat, Bentley, Audi Group which includes Lamborghini and Bugatti, as well as Scania trucks.

I find online editions of UK newspapers like The Telegraph and The Independent to be a good portal into the European marketplace.
Had I had the chance to post before seppoboy I would have broken the news of Czechoslovakia's break up
much more gently.

They aren't VW quality - they're better. Skodas get among the best reliability marks for any European car, while the equivalent VWs are mediocre to worse.

Why are some of you guys getting excited about these warmed over VWs? Quality is on par with mainstream VW models. At least the newest offerings are a little more differentiated from their VW kin.
You sure see a lot of Skodas in eastern Europe. Nothing to get me excited. Nor did I want to rent one over there.

Has anyone watched BBC's Top Gear this season? According to Clarkson, the Skoda Yeti is quite possibly the best all-around car on the market. Of course, it's worth watching the humorous way he reaches that conclusion. Incomparable.
