One-Off Grabber Blue 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca Headed for Barrett-Jackson

There's no debate: Grabber blue is the best color on a car since Laguna Seca blue (which was the best color since the discontinuation of Phoenix yellow, but this is an argument for another day...) And so when the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 was announced in only Competition Orange, Performance White, Kona Blue Metallic, Yellow Blaze Tri-Coat Metallic and Race Red, there was outrage.

Okay, maybe not, but the color is pretty spectacular and Ford has finally decided to paint a Boss 302 Laguna Seca in the bright blue. Trouble is, they only painted one like this and it's headed for the 40th annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.

This one-off Mustang features the same 444-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 as all Laguna Seca Boss 302s, but will get distinctive black accents on the roof, mirrors and spoiler, Recaro seats with Grabber blue embroidery and Grabber blue grille surround and rear X-Brace.

Parnelli Jones will be providing commentary for the event which will be televised live on SPEED on January 22.

All  proceeds above MSRP will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Ford and Barrett-Jackson have raised nearly $2.5 million for charity over the last four years.

our local Ford dealer has had an '08 or '09 grabber blue GT on its lot for at least two years.

it may look great in photos or on the stand at a show or on the track, but it may as well be bright orange, pink or lime green, cause that color looks lousy on the lot next to other Mustangs (and doesn't appear to sell).

I agree. Grabber blue might be a "retro" color, but it's not the right color for the Mustang off of pages of magazines and in nostalgic writer's minds.

"All proceeds above MSRP will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation."

Why not all proceeds, period? Otherwise this is a free ad for Ford.

The dealer I go to had eight Fiesta's this weekend, five of them lime green. All of them automatics. All of them priced around $18k. Oh boy.

What dealer, exnavadan? Any '11s?

the dealership is in central MA - they have two '11 GT's, one black/auto, the other dark grey/don't know the tranny (haven't looked - not in the market and don't need the temptation).

the '11's look great w/ their respective color/wheel packages. that grabber blue GT looked awful. plus you're talking 315hp vs 41_hp, so they'd have to drop the price significantly to dump the older grabber blue model.

my b-i-l has a kona blue '10 gt500 convertible w/ white stripes - that is a nice color combo. not to mention it can get out of its own way and sounds great even at idle.

There was a special on SPEED channel about the Boss 302. They showed how the car is developed throughout production. Parnelli Jones drove it and gave it his stamp before they sent it into production, Carrol Shelby went for a ride, and they raced it before it went into production. I'm sure the special was Ford sponsored, but it sure did make me want one of these bad boys. The sound is what gets me.

Oh yeah and it beat the M3 at Laguna Seca...
