We, as in, we the editors of Inside Line and Edmunds.com, are having a meetup this Saturday. We're bringing a 2011 Ford Explorer to the weekly Cars & Coffee event in Irvine, California. Cars & Coffee is where SoCal car guys go to look at old, classic cars (and increasingly, really high-end cars). It's in a parking lot on the Mazda-Ford campus, and nope, it looks nothing like this alpine paradise.
If you'd like to sit in the new Explorer, see if your kids will fit in its 3rd row, or just shoot the breeze with your favorite Inside Line editors, you're welcome to stop by. We'll have a few of the latest additions to our long-term test fleet on hand, too.
Here are the details:
When: Saturday, December 11, 2010 @ 7 AM
Where: Cars & Coffee
7905 Gateway Blvd
Irvine, CA 92618

Why: See the new Explorer, give Inside Line editors a piece of your mind.

Very nice IL! Unfortunately I am on the East Coast and while I would not hesitate to jump in the car and head out on a road trip, the family has other ideas. Take some nice pictures.

^ Me too. Being on the East Coast can be a bummer sometimes. And this is one of them. :(

If it wasn't more then 1000 miles away it would be great to meet some of the people I've been wasting time with for so long.
I was in California a couple weeks ago but I doubt my kids would have given up a a day at Disney so I could go drink coffee and talk cars.

I'll be there. Sadly, my Miata is on the IRL so I'll probably come out in my totally awesome Taurus Wagon. Win.

That's a generous offer AND it falls on my birthday weekend. Hmm . . .

I looked at one of these a few weeks ago at the dealer. I didn't try it out, but the Ford guy showed me some of the bells and whistles. I think the seat-changing controls - tapes that stick out here and there and you pull on them - are quite goofy. I also don't like the fact that the cargo area doesn't lie down flat. I think that should be a pretty easy thing to design, but there must be some other priority.
