Thought the idea of a $60,000 Chevy Volt was a bit steep? Well then get ready to pull your monacle out of your tea because rich guys tend to really go overboard when a low-VIN (BU100002), limited run, hugely important car goes up for auction. Maybe more so when the proceeds go to charity. Considering that, this 2011 Chevy Volt -- #2 off the line, #1 went straight to the museum -- should pull in a tidy sum and a handy profit for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) departments of the Detroit Public School Foundation.
"An estimated 80 percent of jobs in the next decade are going to require skills based in math and science. With the support of GM, Detroit students will be better equipped to make a difference in Detroit, in Michigan, and in the United States," Detroit Public Schools emergency financial manager Robert Bobb, said in a statement. "We appreciate General Motors' support in developing the next generation of engineers."
With 14 days left, the Volt is already at $105,000. Head over to the Volt's Charitybuzz Auction page to watch for yourselves, or, if you're more well-heeled, place a bid. There are few better causes.

Good cause but I hope the buyer isn't expecting it to be a collector item some day.

So Chevy decides to auction a VOLT instead of a Limited-Edition Camaro or Corvette?
