These would be the greatest spy shots ever if not for one little hitch. (Excluding them being a little hot.) Look at them, the 2012 SLK is sharp, the driver isn't flippinng off the camera, there looks to be some ability for the photographer to get multiple shots. The interior shots clearly show the Magic Sky Control roof AND the measuring equipment they use to see how much heat in Death Valley is let in. They're great. No offense to our spy photos, they're fantastic, but these, it's almost like Mercedes took their own spy photos and sent them to journalists.
Oh, they did. Right. Moving on.
These well planned, timed and staged photos show the hot-weather testing of the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK and, obviously, the new multi-opacity roof that, according to the Sternpyramometer which measures radiation. 56 is lower than 204. Darkening the glass works!

I see a tremendous future for this glass-darkening technology. Right now MB is experimenting with on a moonroof, but I can see this being used on all the windows of a vehicle—for security reasons.
If you park your car, just flip a switch and all the glass goes black. No more need for those awkward security cargo covers on wagons, hatches, etc. When you're ready to drive off, flip the switch again, and the glass becomes transparent. How cool is that!
Here's a more detailed explanation from MB:

Absolute genius, Mercedes. I'm assuming this is only for the coupe variant as it would be silly on a hardtop convertible.
Now, let's talk about price....
