Dodge has finally released details on the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 and they're slightly different than what had been leaked previously. The 2011 Challenger SRT8 will make 470-horsepower and 470 lb-feet of torque in a package that features a new chin spoiler, front fender spats, quad exhaust and painted decklid spoiler.
Modifications have also been made to the 2011 Challenger to make it more "tossable." These include redesigned suspension geometry, more negative camber and firmer shock damping. Further, the steering has been quickened and a heavy-duty pump has been added. (Three cheers for remaining hydraulic!) Dodge says this combination is good for 0.93 on the skidpad, that's better than the 0.84 we saw the last time we tested a 2010 Challenger SRT8.
Chrysler also announced the Inaugural Edition 2011 Dodge 392 which will be limited to the first 1,492 (we see what you did there) vehicles and be available with special colors and new full-body stripe combinations that include: Deep Water Blue with standard Stone White stripes or Bright White Clear Coat with standard Viper Blue stripes. The Inaugural Edition will ride on 20-inch SRT-exclusive wheels with a polished face and satin black painted pockets.
Expect to see the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 and Inaugural Edition in dealerships later this year.

Why pick 1492? With the heavy emphasis on American history in their recent ads, why celebrate the year a spanish dude made a mistake?
Surprised they didn't go with 1776

Columbus was not Spanish. He was from the Republic of Genoa, in northwestern Italy. You can say he was the first Italian American.

I'm guessing they built 1500 but used 8 of them for purposes such as magazine tests or crash tests and the like.

Kudos to Dodge for making the most powerful naturally-aspirated brute of today's pony car trio. Unfortunately, the best Challenger will still not dethrone the best from Ford and Chevrolet. If only they could get rid of the e-brake pedal and install a proper hand brake...

At least they put a stiffer suspension on it, the current Challenger was softer than the Charger.

As a Mopar fan from waaay back, I am glad to see Dodge doing better.

I agree, but how often are you going to use the e-brake during driving? It has hill assist on the MT equipped vehicles so no worries there.

Honestly? Never. I just like it in the center console like all other proper sporty cars. Heck, my TrailBlazer has a hand brake. My grandmother had a 92 Cavalier she bought new, and I remember that even had a hand brake.

If this had been a GM product, the number would have been 1487 units! LOL!!!

What's the 1492 units symbolize?

Well, it's an '11 model and it has 392 inches of displacement. So 1, 1+3 and then 92= 1492.
At least that's how I figured it.

This will at least allow the Challenger SRT to truely compete with the Mustang Gt and Camaro SS.
Let's hope that dodge is looking to put out a supercharged model or SRT-10 Challenger to compete with the GT500 and upcoming Z28.

This is the sexiest domestic I've ever seen. I feel like Al Pacino in the movie Heat, when he is refering to a womans rear end when looking at this car.
I don't care if it is as fast as a Mustang GT or Camaro SS, this car is outstanding.

Hey, it's yet another limited edition (i.e. dealer mark-up opportunity) from Dodge...Will be interesting to see if the extra 45 or so HP will be enough to keep this fat guy up to speed with the more fit and nimble champs. Kind of weird that the SRT-8 ends up being the competition for the SS and GT, which basically leaves the R/T left out there as a non-contender.

I think they arrived at the 1492 as follows 392 for Canada where they are made (most of the parts come from US suppliers) and 1100 for the US market. I think I read somewhere the first addition is sold out already. Now you can order any color you want.

They don't need a V10 to compete all they need is to stuff a 440 stroker in the Challenger. I copied the specs from the MOPAR CRATE ENGINE SITE.
MPS STROKER 7.2L 440 HEMI EFI LONG BLOCK PREMIUM SPEC 620 HORSEPOWER, 565 FT-LBS TORQUE
