Quick rundown on the Banshee: John DeLorean, then head of Pontiac, wanted to build something awesome. Something that would crush the Mustang in terms of performance and looks. So he build this. In 1964. Do you remember what the Corvette looked like in '64? Not this good. Even the '68 Corvette, which is strangely similar to this, looks as good. And there's the problem.
No way a Mustang fighter was going to get built that would steal sales from the 'Vette. Not from Pontiac anyway. DeLorean later left GM to build his two-seat dream which will be forever linked with 88 mph.
This is one of two drivable XP-833 Banshees made. A convertible with a V8 and this, with a straight 6. It's literally one-of-a-kind and could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

This car is gorgeous, thanks for sharing! I still like the Vette even better because it has the dimensions of a true sports car, but this is fantastic.

neato. Its kind of crazy how many little styling elements were borrowed from this prototype and used in other GM production cars.

This car has been at a car dealer in Milford CT for a while. I saw it there when I bought my Accord. I get the history but couldn't imagine spending that much cash on it...it didnt look that impressive.

To "chrisa222"... You were there buying an Accord? Guess that explains why you don't get it.

This sentence sums up the demise of Pontiac. Chevy dealers could not fathom Pontiac having GREAT product like the RWD G8 vs a FWD Impala....Lol

I saw the car two days ago. The roof hinges from the rear and it was open from he windshield on back. This car still looks great and would have been a hit, back in the day. The other prototype is driven and enjoyed by a collector. It will do the quarter in about 12 seconds. Three years ago, I stumbled across one of two "test mules" for the DeLorean DMC-12. It was a Renault Alpine with the DMC-12 drivetrain. A shop in New Hampshire was doing a complete restoration. The new DeLorean Motor Co., in Texas, is building new DMC-12s from new and NOS parts and is restoring and selling original cars.(www.delorean.com). I'll never understand GM. Every time they build good cars, at least for the time, they suddenly let them go by the wayside. We all know they're a mess(except in China), with two divisions gone and it's "Government Motors".
