Top Gear USA: New Clip, Do You Want to Feel Adam Ferrara's Heartbeat?

History Channel's Top Gear USA has released another teaser clip, this time, with Lamborghinis.

The point? Each of the presenters has to pick a new Lamborghini and try to convince the others why his pick is best. Tanner Foust thinks the Gallardo Valentino Balboni feels "lighter, more crisp, more like I like to drive." Adam Ferrara in the Gallardo Superleggera wants you in the car to feel his heartbeat (no thanks) and the other guy thinks the Murcielago SuperVeloce is, "dangerous" yet "makes you feel invincible."

We think they need some more tries at this before we compare them to the real Top Gear....

I don't know how Top Gear USA did it, but somehow, they made Lamborghinis boring.

I'll add onto jriz' comment: Booooooooooooring.

Seriously........sure the whole thing looks like "Top Gear" but those host? Who is Adam Ferrara? And no i don't want to feel your heart beat. Tanner Foust, sure you have some driving credit, Formula D, and your resent win a X Games and Rally Crosses first event. But your old Speed show "Supercars" really shows us your camera skills and your new show "Battle of the Supercars" along side the washed up Paul Tracy isnt much better. And finally Rutledge Wood, what even qualifies you do drive cars of this caliber? I think you lost your NASCAR Circus somewhere? You might want to find it, these cars happen to also turn right!

why all the Top Gear worship? The locations and some of the segments are nice but only about a third of each episode is interesting. I hope the American version is BETTER, not merely a duplication of the real version. Are all American males compelled to worship Top Gear? People act like its the greatest show ever made.

tmanz says:

"a third of each episode is interesting."

But just under two thirds is entertaining and a final bit is frightening :)

Couldn't even bring myself to watch this clip.

I'd say Top Gear is about 2/3 interesting. I just fast forward through the celebrity interviews and their hot lap times.

But man, I don't know about this American version. These guys just don't strike me as having the same relational dynamic or comedic timing that the fellas on the BBC do. I just get the impression that at some point one of them is going to say something retarded like "Oh, that Lambo's bodacious, dude!"

cardesigner82 says:

Hmmm...I'll have to agree with all the comments, this is quite boring. I'd rather watch the original series. I would also have to say 2/3's of Top Gear is worth while with the exception of the celeb hot laps. However, watching Tom Cruise's hot lap on two wheels was pretty funny.

Wow, I have never been so bored watching Lamborghini's. This even blows watching some 80 goat drive one at 45 mph on the freeway...
P.S. Does anyone know who these three prats are?

Early Top Gear US clips are not promising. The US hosts feel flat. Clarkson, May and Hammond are engaging in a way the US cast lacks at first blush. Perhaps the UK appeal is as simple as the "foreign" English accents.

Moreover, Top Gear UK is in its 13th (14th?) series. Copying show premises, cinematography and art direction frame-by-frame for the US adaptation is the wrong approach. The Top Gear brand is already tired.

The way I see it, ANYTHING is better than the crap American car shows that are on now. The Powerblock? Street Customs? Ridiculous. The only good shows are British! Autotrader, Wheeler Dealers and Top Gear.

jederino says:

06:37 PM, 09/ 1/10

^^Pat is right! The brits can do a show on a shoe-string budget and really sell it and make it entertaining. There is almost no way that TOP GEAR USA can win over fans from the British original. Not from what I see here. The lack of chemistry, charisma and humor just screams "poor facsimile".

this is really really bad...

and who takes a Lamborghini and spins it around in dirt/dust!

they should totally recast this, carolla by himself would be 1000x better..

lets all post our dream cast

1) carolla

2) maybe mike rowe?

3) let me think

Well, that was better than the 1st preview. But host's are flat in character....

Maybe they need to add somebody like Matt Farah?

I just completed my Australian tax return ... that was more pleasing than watching this. I think there should be a show about how bad this American version is. After seeing this, people will want to sacrifice puppies. I'm compelled to punch a bee in the face.

Once again people love to compare to the original series and hosts. Boring, how is it boring? Sure the hosts may not be right on their game yet but it is their first season. Clarkson was pretty dang boring a decade ago but has transformed with the show. Of course the original will always be better and you can still watch it! I will continue to watch the very entertaining British version and I am really looking forward to this American version. I think it will be entertaining and different. Come on look at our other car shows! Support this one or it will be replaced with some other lame reality TV garbage!

chrisbrowdr says:

I love the original Top Gear series, my only gripe was the interview and the hot lap done by British celeberties I had never heard of, and the occassional test run of a car that is not available in the U.S.
I always thought, I wouldnt mind the interviews and the Hot Lap if they had celeberties Americans know and would care to see and testing cars available in the U.S. (i.e. Taurus SHO, the know defunct Cobalt SS, Caliber SRT-4, or the like)
I didnt think the U.S. preview here was as bad as the other posts indicate.
Although wooden and stiff, maybe these guys will get better as the show progresses, but I have to say that there is a charm, wit, and timing with the original UK trio that can't be duplicated and THAT is why the show is successful...if this American crew can't replicate that or make themselves more interesting to watch, then they will have to be replaced if the show is to succeed...goes to show, you can use the same formula for a show, but it's still the people in it that make it a success.

chrisa222 says:

WOW...I don't get all this negativity. Don't you guys want a show about cars? I think we should give it a chance and at least watch a WHOLE episode before we judge the show to be worhless...we don't know a whole lot about the cast other than Tanner Foust...who HAS some driving creds...give it a chance.

Now, that being said..there is no way this show can replace the real Top Gear. But, maybe in addition to the real show...it will be at least somewhat entertaining. At least we won't all be fast forwarding through the "celebrity" laps in the reasonably priced car. lol

Im surprised Leno didn't want to be involved...

dadasracecar says:

Agreed. Boring. I would hope Top Gear USA can differentiate itself from its predecessor. Maybe add a tuner section - modified Mustangs, Corvettes, EVOs, SRT-4s, etc. Might get some more of the younger crowd involved and even explain the pros and cons of modifications. I think there would be ample material (and sponsors) there.

emmasdad says:

I am excited. This looks a lot better than I had dared hope for. So far easily the best American car show ever made. (not hard to do, but still). I don't understand why there is so much negativity towards the hosts. Sure this isn't the British Top Gear but we can all still watch that show. Great camera work, beautiful cars, inoffensive hosts. For me this already looks better than Fifth Gear.

docrr says:

The original TopGear's first few seasons, er, decades were nothing to praise. It wasn't until James May came on the show, a few years back, which gave the show good character dynamics. Furthermore, the editing and story line got better with trials and tribulations. With that said, TopGear has become one of the best, if not the best car show on tv.

I hope that the US TopGear will be given a fair chance that extends beyond just one season. It may take a few, with a change in the casting and to find the right mood. Time will tell.

1. Come on look at our other car shows! Support this one or it will be replaced with some other lame reality TV garbage!

So your argument is that everything else is bad and therefore we should accept mediocrity?

2. Delighted Leno isn't involved. He's not a driver. He's an old man who polishes cars with a diaper. He has nothing interesting, controversial or amusing to say about cars. Or anything, really.

3. Tuning is for a different viewer. Go pitch that idea. Top Gear is about being funny first, having nice cinematography and finally about the cars.

4. I just want the BBC show sold or available on American TV the same week legally. That's all. It's pretty easy. Put it on Showtime or HBO. I will pay for it on iTunes. I just want to watch it without having to resort to bittorrents.

smallfield says:

I'm glad they are trying Top Gear in the US.

Come on, we should be able to beat the brits at this. We have so many more car guys just by sheer population mass. We have great roads (if they can buy off local police to close the road for a couple takes), LOTS of great road courses and more low milage, high performance cars than all of the UK in some of our individual states.

Tanner is perfect to be Clarkson by driving (a drift champion) like what you'd want to see on TV but isn't hairy chested or tall enough. Maybe send him south for some meat and potatoes, or at least get him out of Cali for a while and he'll do well.

I think tidy laps are boring to watch and should be saved for the American Stig's time trials wherever they take place.

When does this debut?

agnh says:

09:53 PM, 09/ 2/10

How about Jason Priestly as a host? He has at least some racing cred, and he was great as the narrating host of "Rides" on TLC.
Tanner Foust is so painful to watch on "Supercars Exposed" it's unbearable sometimes. He actually makes Paul Tracy seem entertaining.
Are they even going to have an American Stig?

isend2c says:

The Original Top Gear, and TG Australia both fired a host after the first season, in TG Australia I think it was the best host, in TG UK It was the worst, by far.

I think this show will still be one of the best auto shows on air in the US, Top Gear UK will be the only one to top it. And I'm excited for them to test cars I can buy, and not Fiats and Renaults. Or even a Ford Focus that's decent (aka not a US-spec one).
