Santa Monica Based Coda Electric Car Priced From $44,900

2011CODASedan.jpg

Based on a Chinese-built sedan, with engineering help from Porsche Engineering and a Borg-Warner EV transmission, the 100-mile-real-world-range Coda EV will hit mall kiosks at a price of $44,900. This includes things like airbags, XM radio, nav, a 33.8 kWh Lithium iron phosphate battery and Bluetooth.

Coda will have no dealerships per se, but rather, rely on a gang of mall kiosks in the California area that will be staffed by Coda non-commissioned persons-- the entire buying process will be online and cars are built to order. Coda plans to have 17 of these opened by the end of 2011 at which time they plan to have sold some 14,000 vehicles.

In comparison, this is $300 more than a top-level Chevy Volt and $11,000 more than a Nissan Leaf.

Who in their right mind buys a $45k car from an unknown manufacturer from a mall kiosk?

And their service infrastructure? I'm willing to bet against this venture.

Is it Just me or does it look just like a rebadged Suzuki Forenza?!? And those LED Fog lights are laughable... The pieced on grille, there's just so much to strain the eyes. I'd take the Last gen Acura TL looking Chevy Volt ANY DAY over this, and enjoy its better reliability and actual dealers who can fix it... Not to mention it would be cheaper... Good Luck Soda with your electric car!
