So here's 6-foot-1, 20-year-old Korean millionaire professional golfer Michelle Wie hitting a golf ball for the new Kia Soul.

Way better than hamsters.

I'm not sure who their target audience is for that ad.

Personally, I'd take any of those other cars in the parking lot over the Soul. Then again, I'd take darn near any car over the Soul.

On top of it, that music was freaking annoying.

Showing my age?

@brn:

I think the idea of the commercial is about being different. The Soul is certainly different. I think the concept of the commerial is great. The music, however, is terrible.

Maybe thinking the commercial is bad has to do with you age, but the car, not so much. I would hazard a guess that, like the xB, the Soul sells quite well with the older folks.

Wie is from Hawaii, not Korea....

(yeah yeah her parents are Korean but she was born in the US and is a US citizen)

Ditch the hamsters! The Wie commercial is way funnier than the hamsters!

The problem with this ad is that it makes the Kia Soul a 'chick' car. Men won't buy it if it is a chick car.
But women do buy cars aimed at men.

So, great, Kia has alienated the majority of the buying public.

so did she get it in her contract that she wouldn't actually have to be seen in or even touching the car?

Uhm, I think this is aimed at the US, where it's 51% women, 49% men (though in younger age groups, there are more men).

Kia's ads are absolutely fantastic. Although I do share the opinion about the music. It's really irritating and unimaginative. OOoooh rap! How edgy and youthful! Fight for your right to par-tay!

As for the car, I think it's great looking for what it is. This ad isn't intended to get men out of their BMW's. But the purpose of this is to reinforce Kia as a choice for young women who aren't in the market for a BMW.

The music in the other ads are kinda catchy but this music is just, bad. Brn, you often show your age but this time I agree completely about the music. :)

In terms of entertainment and amusement, I'll take the hamsters every time. They're funny, sometimes ROTFLOL funny.

And while Wie is an attractive young woman (in a sport not really known for such) with an amazing swing, she's been pretty dismal as a Pro Golfer, although to be fair, being hyped as the female Tiger Woods put a lot of expectations on her that probably weren't realistic. Either way, I'm really not sure what they're hoping to accomplish putting her in a commercial. Hope its not just because she's of Korean ancestry.

ne1butu2: "Kia's ads are absolutely fantastic."

Again, maybe I'm showing my age. The idea of some hip youngster showing up the pompous old men at the Country Club theme has been around since the silent film era. I really don't see anything creative about this commercial at all.

ne1butu2: "Fight for your right to par-tay! "

The Beastie Boys would have been a hell of a lot better than that garbage they went with. As far out of touch as I might be, I'm pretty sure they would have done much better with the likes of Lady Gaga (or one of many other performers that I'll never be able to name).

inlinesix: "Brn, you often show your age"

It'll eventually happen to you too, sonny. ;)

The hamster commercials are way better as Mr. Church also wrote!

My friend, you have not been paying attention to women's golf (not that I blame you). It's not tennis, but there are quite a few VERY attractive women on the LPGA these days.
