Murder Mystery: Cadillac to Offer Black Wheels for CTS-V

CTS-V-coupe-black-wheel.jpg

We are delighted that Cadillac will produce and sell the black-finish wheels pictured here because, truth be told, our ultimate goal for the next year is to have built a completely murdered-out CTS-V wagon with the optional Recaros (or proper race seats) up front and maybe built-in child boosters in the rear.

Perhaps you like the highly polished optional wheel already available on the CTS-V line-up. This means you share at least one trait in common with large-mouth bass. To each their own. We wouldn't pay the extra $800 for the shiny wheels but we would probably pay a little extra for the finish picture here, which incidentally is called "satin graphite." The black, er graphite, wheels will be offered as a regular production option for the CTS-V (sedan, wagon or coupe) by the end of this year. They'll also be offered as an accessory should a current CTS-V owner want to retrofit them. Cadillac has not decided how much it'll charge for them, but it will apparently be more than the silver painted wheels which remain the standard fitment.

No word on the availability of the yellow brake calipers seen fitted to this CTS-V Coupe shown at a New York-area media event.

That's pretty cool. A murdered out wagon with a six speed would be absolutely fantastic.

Boo. I'm sick of the darth vader auto trend already.

uncanny_man,

I'd take it a different way-- instead it's GM actually reacting to the market for once. I doubt this will change anyone's decision to get this car over a C63 or M3, it at least shows that GM appreciates customers that want a *truly* badass Caddy.

I'm not a fan of black wheels unless they are on race cars or cars that put off more brake dust than they should (I've tried cleaning too many ruined wheels from brake dust on those cars) But if given the choice I'll take a polished or chrome finish, sorry bandwagon.

black wheels are fine, those black wheels look terrible

Not sure that these look better than the polished aluminum wheels but we all know any wheels are loved by IL as long as they arent shiny. Only dull finish wheels are "classy" according to these people.

Good move by Cadillac. Now if they could just get rid of the trailer trash grille.

A CTS-V MUST have chrome wheels IMO. I think a really nice option would be ultra light weight racing wheels . . . expensine but definately woth it.

I love 'em. Hides brake dust and looks mean on a darker colored car. On a lighter car, (white, silver) I would still do lighter colored rims. Remember the LT M3? Ugggllly color combo.

A few cars look good in all black. The CTS is absolutely one of them. Pure black paint, 10% tint, and those stock wheels would look menacing. Not really my style, but it would look very mean.

The CTS-V is supposed to be on the sporty side of the spectrum, and opting for huge HEAVY chrome rims would be oxymoronic and make you look 'a fool'. Chrome is too gaudy, especially since most chrome these days on cars are painted plastic...not real chrome electroplated metal. Polished aluminum alloy wheels would be pretty sweet though!

theres nothing light about the cts, so the weight of the wheels really doesn't have anything to do with it. Not like the finish matters that much anyway, they will all be replaced by 22" chrome wheels soon enough.

"Good move by Cadillac. Now if they could just get rid of the trailer trash grille."

You mean like the one on a Bentley or XF? Yeah, real trailer trash design. People kill me with the anti American automaker doublt standards.

"Not like the finish matters that much anyway, they will all be replaced by 22" chrome wheels soon enough"

On a CTS? not really. update your stereotypes so they make sense.

Agree with half_ton.

My CTS-V is the same color as in the picture above and it needs the polished rims to match the chrome on the grille, trunk and windows. Not a fan of black rims.

Take a look at these pics and tell me if you agree.

I've personally like chrome, but the black looks awesome as well. And on a CTS-V, which has a pretty menacing look already, it could make for a car that looks like it will strait swallow your car whole if you don't get out of the way. Now if GM would offer a matching grille insert so you could have your choice of matching packages.

Agreed on getting rid of the garish grille... and next up maybe offer a matte finish for the interior trim!

Boy, edmunds inside line even got the headline wrong. The wheels are dark grey, not black.

arubenstein says:

Completely disagree. I took my CTS-V wheels to be blaster and powder coated with black flake. I think it looks killer. http://tinyurl.com/2u6ag8u
