We knew that Nissan would be showing a convertible version of the Nissan Murano at the 2010 LA Auto Show. What we didn't know was confirmed today; The upcoming drop-top crossover will be the 2012 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet. The Murano CrossCabriolet will be the world's first all-wheel-drive crossover convertible and will seat 4.
Nissan will also be showing a sedan concept, the Nissan Ellure, which is said to add "a new dimension to traditional sedan design-- a dimension named innovation."
These two vehicles are part of Nissan's "Innovation For All" campaign and will include the release of two other vehicles: The fully redesigned 2011 Nissan Quest Minivan and the Nissan Leaf EV.

Egads! That thing is hideous. Nissan is gonna lose their ass on it.

Has there ever been a successful convertible with a "hoop"?
It isn't so much ugly as it is ungainly.
And I wonder what made Nissan think anyone would want this thing?
If it is a crossover, then where is the utility? The rear seat appears to be very near the rear of the car. Not much of a trunk, or whatever they are going to call it-- glove box, maybe? It certainly can't be a hatchback-- maybe it has a swing down tailgate that opens up and reveals... what? The rear seats?

I predict the most common car traded in for this will be the Lexus SC430. What other demographic does this attract?

My next door neighbor for one. He just bought a Camry convertible. He also tows a boat with his Explorer, but could probably tow it with this car.
