Cadillac Making Commercial in Celebration of CTS-V's 7:59 Nurburgring Lap

Remember when the current-generation Cadillac CTS-V ran a 7:59.32 on the Nurburgring Nordschleife supposedly setting a record for four-door production cars? Yeah, that was over 2 years ago. But Cadillac just now getting around to making a commercial called "The Competition" to commemorate that occasion.

Here's why this is interesting to us: Jeff Zwart is directing the commercial. Yes, Jeff Zwart who drove a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup up Pikes Peak earlier this summer, easily shattering Rhys Millen's class record. His day job is directing commercials.

The 'Ring used to be an honorable proving ground for vehicles. Now it's just an oversized PR photo prop.

Humm ...I think Subaru's 2.0 WRX STI's did a 7:55 Nurburgring lap time. What is the true record for four-door production car ?

No: The STI was a prototype not available for purchase(not production car), even in Japan (including roll cage, 6 pot brakes, different suspension and aero bits and parts including some from R205 version including turbo ). The CTS V was a production car that you could buy at a dealer.

I understood the Panamera Turbo holds the record.

The Panamera Turbo does holds the record, its a wee bit faster then the CTS V

But The more I read about the Times you see just how fast the stock GT-R ($80K) is with a super fast lap time of 7 minutes 27.56 seconds

I met John Heinricy over the weekend. He is one cool character. We talked about his record at the ring extensively.
