By now you've read our Last Drive / Full Test of the 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis Ultimate Edition, laughed, cried over the loss of the brand and then re-read it.
But there's more to a road test than what makes it to the site. In order to get those bitchin' drifting shots someone has to suck it up and powerslide a 4,042 pound, 224 horsepower Mercury. It's a tough job some days.
Oh, and one more after the jump....because what would the point be in playing with a cop car if we didn't do a J-turn (or a Rockford if that's the way you want to play it)?

IL: "what would the point be in playing with a cop car if"
As cool as that looked, you weren't playing with a cop car. The CVPI has a much stiffer chassis and infinitely better suspension. Combine that with a wide stance, and the CVPI hangs on to a corner a lot better than you'd expect. Also it's very predictable, but you probably saw that in the GrandMa too.

Ok so where's the external video of the J-turn?
Ironically, I actually learned how to do J-turns in a Crown Victoria (not the PI). What a horrible handling, riding, wretched steering, wet-noodle chassis of a car - with the most uncomfortable vinyl-like leather blob of a bench seat... the full test article is spot-on on how bad it is. Still, with the cheap tires that offer no grip and chassis-tuning that likes to swap ends, it is a good car to do them in!

I know I'm gonna get flamed by some as a kill-joy, but I don't think it's cool of IL to abuse someone else's car. The "press cars" provided by the manufacturers are fair game, but borrowing or renting a car that's not yours in order to mess it up is a jerky thing to do. Those j-turns basically destroy the tranny.

Not by me. Renting a car for the purpose of beating on it may be common, but is not kosher.

Did anyone else think of that ending scene from Superbad? Yeah, I know it's not a cop car, but it's similar looking.

Designing of the 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis LS becomes a remarkable job because of the addition of accessories like Rear Reading Lights, Front Carpeted Floor Mats, Keyless Entry, Crash Sensors, Leather Seats, Driver Power Seat Adjusts 6 Ways Total, Tilt Steering Column, Tinted Glass, Rear Window Defroster.
