The leaks from Chrysler just keep on coming. Today, the boys at Allpar have shown pictures of the refreshed (understatement) 2011 Jeep Wrangler. Yes, those are steering wheel mounted buttons that don't appear to be the horn. And yes, the window switches are still on the center console.
The instrument panel has been refreshed to match current J/D/C products and the 4wd and drive selector stalks each got a touch of chrome and what could be leather. There're are also chrome bezels around the air vents and on the door and dash handles. Overall, this is a substantial refresh on a very, very tired interior.
No word when we'll see this hit the streets or the show floor.

New engine, PLEASE new engine! At least the 4.0L from the Nitro & bigger vans, sheesh!

Yea what audisport said
I dont know if they sell them all without discounts but the Wrangler has been a strong vehicle for the brand for a long long time. The interior has been made for taking the elements.

I spy... a car with an interior from the 1980s.

I would worry about the big video screen if I were an actual off-roader.
I assume it is getting the 290 hp 3.7, so the engine is fine, but I hope the Wrangler is finally getting a decent transmission. Chrysler stuck with a 3-speed automatic until 2003 for goodness sake! 10 years after everybody else had switched to 4 (and 5) speed automatics in their trucks and SUV's.
Time to join the modern age, give the Wrangler a 6-speed auto that allows for a crawler 1st gear, 2-5 for around town and the trail, and an overdrive for the highway so the Wrangler doesn't embarass itself anymore with its pathetic highway mileage. There is no reason a 6-speed can't be just as tough as a 4-speed.

Great old engine but the Wrangler is now much too heavy for it.
"New engine, PLEASE new engine! At least the 4.0L from the Nitro & bigger vans, sheesh!"
The 3.8 has already been dropped from the vans and I can't see then going through the trouble of using the 4.0 for only a year or so. I'm guessing the Wrangler will get the new engine within the year.
As for the interior shot, it looks fine. Remember this is a Jeep, one of the few trucks left that isn't aimed at the market whose biggest concern in life is how pretty the interior trim is.

Its a JEEP not a Buick...it looks just fine.....Jeeps should not even have carpeting.....just hose it out when you are done. The new Pentastar will be awesome in the Wrangler.........
Allpar is an AWESOME website for the MOPAR lover......they have done a far more in depth look at the Pentastar than ANY car magazine......I have been a member for many years now.....even before I owned a MOPAR.

ROFL at everyone looking for for a goat leather dash in this thing. It looks fine. Should be a winner with customers, especially with the new mill.

Heritage, tradition, loyalty.....It's still a throwback on the interior side!!
Where do you begin on this picture? The metal and vinyl door panels from my '67 Mustang? The honeycomb speaker grills made the trip back on the "Hot Tub Time Machine". I have a Chevy Astro work van that they stole the map pocket nets from on the doors an console. The tweets on the dash are a nice touch...as is the green leds for the odometer. Oh, let's talk about controls placed on the dash is such a random fashion, ya might as well have used a shotgun.
Or, let's not.
This could been the interior that could have saved AMC Jeep Wagoneer from extinction. But for a 2012 Anything, it's a FAIL.
But, I guess people still rock mullets...it'll sell.

Thank god they upgraded the interior a bit. Allpar has also already stated that the wrangler is getting the 290 hp pentastar and a modern auto trans. This should fix most of the negatives of a jeep wrangler.
For those that say "looks like a big plastic box" consider this. People actually take jeeps off road, and yes they do hose out the interiors. Jeep owners are a few that actually appreciate plastic in an interior. If you want luxury stick with your faux cute-ute SUV.

Wow, it's 2010 and they still can't make the console and the dash flow together without the console looking like some cheap piece of plastic I bought at walmart for some rust bucket left over from the time before cup holders?
Lousy handling, lousy mpg, lousy utility, lousy reliability. Unless you live less than 2 miles from a beach that allows you to drive onto it or you're so far from civilization that you thought the unibomber was a city boy, this is a dumb vehicle to buy.

Yeah I know herrstreet having fun should be banned right, that's why a bazillion people buy Wranglers. Just a bunch of plebes, lowlifes, miscreants having this 'fun' nonsense
Personally when I have Jeeves wax my Maybach in seal tears I break a kneecap if he touches the seats, which are of course upholstered baby pheasant skin. Let me know your preferred methods of punishment

if you hear that wranglers break all the time or that people are constantly fixing them its because they are constantly being abused and taken off road. Their owners actually enjoy fixing it, and they like interiors like this that can be hosed out after a nice weekend of off roading.

All you people are nuts. I think this interior looks like a great improvement for the Wrangler! Many of you complained about plastic all over, well guess what, that is what your interior is probably made of whether you admit it or not! No, you are right they should have used hand stitched leather all over the place! I think this interior looks much nicer but still keeps the utilitarian look that is appropriate for the Wrangler.
streetster says:

Why is everybody crying about the interior? Half of you say its too cheap for 2010 and the rest say its too refined for a Jeep.
I'm a Jeep Wrangler owner and I think what they've done is a good step forward with the interior and most Wrangler OWNERS will appreciate it.
Now all I hope for is the 290 hp Pentastar V6 paired to a proper manual or a new age auto. This thing will atleast meet if not exceed the FJ Cruiser's performance. The current engine is just plain anaemic.
I'm not so sure about the electronic sway bar disconnect though.

Poor design - It appears Chrysler has one group working on the dash design, one for the center consul, one for the seats and one on the color scheme.
1) Notice how the center consul is not mated to, but is so close to the center dash as to be a pinch hazard? Can you imagine bouncing around off road in this thing and getting something wedged in there? Poor planning.
2) With an off-road, robust vehicle like the Wrangler, "Less is More". Let's see more dead space, more of the inner workings. Don't cover everything in plastic! This is exactly what someone who doesn't know the primary purpose of the vehicle would do. JEEP DESIGNERS: Take a Humvee from Afghanistan after 2 years of HARD service, see how the troops have customized it to their use, and apply that knowledge to the Wrangler. THINK Chrysler!
3) Make the vehicle for what it is: Lose the cheap chrome, square footage of plastic and the faux brushed aluminum. Rubberize, carbon-fiber and metal should be the look. The mystic here is a vehicle that lives off-road and only goes on-road to go back off-road. Use that as a starting point, and add with reason not on whim. The core Wrangler user wants a good vehicle and will convert it to their purposes.
Chrysler - build a good, solid core vehicle and talk to your core constituency on how to go further. Save the Jeep! or sell it to Ford.

One more thing: Bring the diesel engine version sold in Europe to the USA. I don't want to go fast, but want lots of torque off-road and decent pick-up on. Not great, but solid pick-up.

LOL! I think my 1999 Wrangler TJ is a ball to drive. No, it doesn't handle like my Club Sport or easily accelerate from 80-120 like my MS3, but it's a lot of fun in it's own way. One more thing; I live at the end of a twisting gravel farm road- with the TJ I know I can get out regardless of the weather conditions.
As a matter of fact, I'm thinking maybe the JK is TOO civilized...

oh my LOL. Yeah, carbon fiber in a Wrangler, should keep the price point well in line with absolutely nothing. You know whats like carbon fiber, only a bazillion times cheaper? Plastic. You know what's in Wranglers? Plastic. You know who buys Wranglers? A billion people. Thank Pete Chrysler doesnt listen to you morons trying to make the car look like a Range Rover, they'd have gone bankrupt 10 years ago.

Wrinklebump -
Chrysler is bankrupt, sold-out, and looking to an italian company and my wallet as a life line. Jeep's share of the off-road vehicles is on the downturn due to increased competition from Europe and Japan. China is now building a Jeep Wrangler clone for their domestic market that is a fraction of the cost of the US model.
Jeep's competition from Europe and Japan are more expensive, and gaining market share simply because they are a better quality product. Look at the interior of the toyota FJ and there's much less clutter, better quality materials - event the plastic is better. Less is more.
The FJ is $2k more than the Jeep and has a substantial market.
My impression of the Jeep's interior is that it's cramped full of CHEAP plastic. You may love it, as many would with poor tastes.
Let's have more leg room. Rip out whats unnecessary. The CJ was never as cramped. when you're off-road, bouncing around, you don't want to constantly be slamming into the interior. A) the cheap plastic won't hold up, and B) you'll end up ripping it out yourself and have a mess on your hands.
With the Jeep Wrangler - less is more.
