Here's the official name and confirmation of existence for the Motorsport 1 Series. It's not the M1 (nor the 135is), of course. Instead, it's the 2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe. Here's BMW's first official video about the car, which is still wearing the psychedelic tape.
You can see more photos of the car right here.

The big question to me is how much? The 1 series, IMO, has always been over priced. I fear that adding the M treatment will only make that equation worse.
But I'm registering anyway :)

Depends on what you consider "overpriced" to be. It's the handling that will win people over. The M cars have speed aplenty, but they are all about handling.

May as well have called it the '1tii' - instead of putting listeners to sleep.

Is there an internal BMW competition to make the longest model name? Whoever came up with this one is the new leader.

Remember the M635CSi from the 80s? Why couldn't this have been the M135i? Or if we use the naming convention from the 80s, the M130is?

Yea the M135i would have sounded good. Wonder how they will plate the back end of the vehicle?
Anyhow, this is a vehicle I have been waiting for....I love the size and power, something to roll out on the weekend and blaze new paths with. Forget the clunky big sports cars....small, nimble, lots of power and grip!
I hope this lives up to the expectations....

I'll be following this car with great interest. Too many sports cars today are simply too big.

Excellent point! Although if I get one I'm pulling the emblems and slapping a "120d" badge on the back ;)

i agree about name ,, 1 Series M Coupe doesn't sound good ,, how about 135tii or like what activ8 said 1tii?
I think you guys in Edmunds are wrong ,, you can find 335hp in 135i performance package so in M version it should be higher than that .
Sign me up if it costs about $45,000.

Inside Line , I really don`t know your percentage of success/failures when it comes to rumors/predictions, but this clearly is not the 135is you guys said all the time.
You might wanna try to hire PAUL the octopus next time LOL!!!
Anyway, M pure...... ain`t that something?

Of course we all knew this was coming, but cool. I can't wait to drive one - this has the potential to be the most fun-to-drive BMW on the market.

Signed up - Let's see if they let me drive one properly...
It was a real PITA to test drive an M3, which sells the car if you do. Don't understand BMW dealers.
"Sign me up if it costs about $45,000."
+1 - Hope it has M3 power and M135i weight.

With the turbo engine has the potential to be just as boring as the rest of their cars with the highly overrated and really bland n54/n55. Such a shame they're going this way as their free-revving V8 and inline 6s were fun and rewarded good driving practices. The N54/55 just leads to a rather drama-free drive.

Nothing wrong with a good turbo 4 or 6, but needs to have enough more power or weight reduction to be a M car. I'd hate to see a 330hp 135i be an M car unless it looses a couple hundred pounds.
