Nice for what it is, but I was expecting a revelation, and a revelation this thing is not. Audi did okay with the A4/A5, but this thing & the A8 make me nervous for the A6...

The dash looks like it was pulled straight from a BMW.

A perfect mix of "yawn" and "ew". The back looks like it has down syndrome whereas everything else is typical grey boring Audi. Interior wood trim may just save it's arse.

^ A Lexus guy" suggesting this Audi is "yawn" and "ew" is sort of like the pot calling the kettle black.

@rsholland: lol

In all honesty it is the nicest looking... whatever this thing is... in the whole industry.

wait until you see it in person. i think the most jarring aspect of the design may be the most refreshing. i think the "droopy" and blocky rear end differentiates it from the other 4 door doupe designs on the market. it reminds me a little of the lamborghini sedan concept in the taillights. im not saying its great but ugly (attn: panamera) it definetly is not

My only beef is that the nav/MMI screen looks like an afterthought, even more than it did in the 2008 135i and some other BMWs. Are people wowed by a pop-up screen?

"Are people wowed by a pop-up screen?"

I like the high location (on top of the dash) because, unlike a typical NAVI that's buried lower on the center stack, it's much easier to see and use.

Seems my Dad's 1986 LeBaron GTS 5 door was just way ahead of it's time.

Of course it's a design. Even Toyotas (or Lexuses, if you prefer) are designed. They just haven't produced anything worthwhile since they stopped subcontracting to Giugiaro in the early 1980s.

@firstwagon, there were 5-door saloons, even in the US market, some years before the Lancer and the LeBaron GTS, although I was surprised at Chrysler's gutsiness in trying to market somewhat premium mid-sizers. And having the number of doors is about the only similarity between this and those.

I think it comes off a lot better than the 5-series GT. I have to say as well that the interior looks fantastic. Also, as a fan of older Saabs, I find it comforting to see automakers revisiting the non-traditional hatchback.

Yikes. Someone tell Audi their car spotted with a growth on its back.

dougtheeng says:

Well I don't hate it with everyone bone in my body like I do the 5 Series GT. Actually, I sort of like it. The 5 Series GT comes off looking like a hunchback, but this look sleek, imo. The interior seems congested though - too many dash and console sections.

very disappointing. The exterior from the back looks like the son of the Crosstour. What happened to the slick concept? The interior is well done and probably of high quality but I would take an A6 over this, and I like hatchbacks.

roar02ram says:

Lots of backhanded completments on here...

Maybe Jaguar can get it right! I'm imagining an Infiniti J30 with a hatch...man, that car was before its time!

I like it.....they did a great job on the tail lights and back end. Front end not so much. And yes, the nav screen looks like a giant Garmin stuck on the top of the dash.

ghills says:

The 5 series GT is one of cardom's all time abominations. Along with the Pontiac Aztek.......Olds Achieva, Acura chrome snout......AMC Pacer.......etc.

This A7 is merely a somewhat funny looking car.

jederino says:

I sorta like these fastback or busselback looks better than flame surfacing. It reminds me of trends in post-war classic cars. The interior, however, does not look very harmonious.

hn4u says:

not impressive at all, dont get me wrong audi are great cars, but this design is just plain and boring, from inside and out side. and ya i am not going to pay 50k+ probably for something like that.
I STILL GO FOR A BMW OR A MERCEDES
