Monterey weekend is filthy with auctions we could fill Straightline with every day: nothing but cars we have in our lottery-winning-fantasy-garages. And we might. But for today we're keeping things simple with just this: a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Roadster.
CSX3102 was the second street car Shelby did with a 427 and has many racing modifications. This particular body (CSX3005--3102 was rolled and the new owner bought a body from Shelby) had been modified to race at Le Mans and included wider front and rear fenders for bigger tires, ducts at the top of the rear fenders to cool the brakes and removal of the stock 427 oil cooler scoop in favor of twin coolers and a smaller nose.
In 1971, Bill and Bud Jones bought the car for the princely sum of $9,527.22. To say it will fetch more than that at auction is an epic understatement. Drain your, and your buddy's, bank accounts, when this one goes up August 14 at 2:45.
