Project Record Retrieval, as Millen and Team RMR are now referring to it, continues to amaze. As promised, we went back to the track yesterday and strapped our test gear to Rhys Millen's most insane creation, the Hyundai Genesis PM580, before it heads to Pike's Peak in a few days.
What we found (after the jump) is staggering.
Forgive the shaky, handheld nature of this six-second video and then consider this: In these six seconds (5.94 to be exact) the PM580 accelerated from 20 to 125 miles per hour. That's a feat which our long term Dodge Viper, no slouch exactly, needs 10.53 seconds to complete. Even the fastest accelerating production car we've ever tested -- a 2009 model Corvette ZR1 -- demanded 9.55 seconds. The PM580 is, in fact, the quickest car this auto writer has ever seen. Simply unbelievable.
In motorsport it's all about the details. In that vein, we offer the following documentation of this most awesome machine.
All was going swimmingly when the old man former record holder Rod Millen showed up and offered some advice. Then the tones were hushed as the elder Millen stoically relayed his sage counsel.
Millen says Project Record Retrieval even comes with shirts stating "we fear no Monster," which the team will wear at the race. If you don't get it, then just keep your eyes on the Pikes Peak headlines on June 27. We'll know soon enough if he should.

Monster Tajima broke the record 3 years ago and has won many of the races. He is also 60 years old, quite the master of his trade.

Am I the only person worried about the height of his front splitter?

its all adjustable, and if you look at past pictures it was level with the rest of the body.

If compares with a F-1, is it fastest still? I can't quantified the speed numbers.
