Remember GM's recall campaign on its heated windshield wiper fluid systems? If you missed it, the company was pulling the systems out of cars due to the possibility that they could start a fire.
Now the company that owns the assets of the bankrupt supplier of the heating systems says it's not to blame for the problem. In a report by the New York Times, the president of M-Heat Investors, says GM was blaming the heating system for voltage spikes that weren't caused by the heating system. He sent a letter to NHTSA in 2009 that said he felt GM was deliberately attempting to mislead the supplier.
The case has taken on additional importance as the issue has the potential to start fires in cars that don't have the heated wiper reservoir system. Expect to hear more about this issue.

GM fighting with a supplier over who and what's at fault and failing to fix the problem in the first place? I see nothing's changed.

This is too bad. And yeah, it's typical. Though what I am not sure about is if it is typical for any OEM to point the finger at the supplier.
