Last time our spy photographers met up with the revamped 2011 Dodge Charger, it was in full leathers. So we didn't know if it was going to ease up on the snarky attitude and duck into an Italian cafe to nurse an espresso with Sergio Marchionne. Today, we know better. The snarkiness factor is dialed up to an 11 on the 2011 Charger, which starts production this fall.
Though the Dodge crosshair grille remains, the girly curves of the old version are gone and it juts out more aggressively (not unlike the snout treatment on Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution). The center of the hood is now prominently chiseled just like on the Dodge Challenger. And the downturned headlights give the big sedan a nasty scowl. Note the reshaped front air intakes, too.
The most curious element on this car (other than the black wheels, which we want) is the Ram badge. Rumors of a new emblem for Dodge cars have been swirling now that Ram is its own line. The badge on this prototype seemingly puts those rumors to rest. Or perhaps not. A badging change could easily come at that last minute. We'll deal. But we want black wheels.

If it's a Ram instead of a Dodge, does that make it a Ramcharger?
I like it. Manual please.

The new front looks good. I would like to see the rest though. I always thought the front end was fine, it was the C-pillar/rear quarter panel areas that I thought ruined the car. Hopefully they can make those areas look as good as the new front end. P.S. the Ramcharger was the Dodge equivalent of a Blazer or Bronco, I hope that's not the direction they are going with this.

This more-than-a-tease is promising. But it has to have a manual transmission. I have heard too many horror stories about the Chrysler 5 speed auto.
And the interiors have to be several steps above the current car.
Perhaps better gas mileage for the Hemi?
Or a nice powerful V6 with a 6 speed manual, although this is a very large car-- a manual for the 6 cyl. might not be the way to go, but I think it would work with the Hemi as in days of old.

I liked the old one a lot better. It flowed better. Two things i dont like about this new design.
1. The reflectors in the headlights just don't flow well with the outline of the whole headlight assembly. That's just my personal opinion and not a very big deal.
2. I HATE how there is a little "lip" under the crosshair grill that protrudes out from the rest of the bumper and just is like a cliff face. Doesn't flow AT ALL. They should have let the bumper come to a point (top view) just like its doing above the grill and not unlike the chevy camaro. In addition to that, it looks like there are a lot of curves above the grill (lights, hood, fenders) but below the grill is a perfectly flat wall with some intakes cut into it.
I think by adding my "point" to the rest of the front bumper would make this car look A LOT better.
*these are just my opinions, feel free to argue otherwise*

The 2011 Charger has come from the dentist and has droopy mouth, much like Kramer when Mel Torme met him.
Put the mic up to its grill and see how it sings!

I know Dodge Charger is prefect grill like Mitsubishi Evo. it like bit jealous. I think Dodge can steal Mitsubishi piece. I know Dodge Charger is big victory over Ford Crown Victoria. I can believe Dodge Charger will best selling against to Ford Taurus.

@umiami350z: I think the lip under the grill provides the flat license plate mounting, so hopefully it won't be noticable with a plate on it?
@firstwagon: I know about the Ramchargers, but to name a V6 dime a dozen family mobile after a legendary(and rather rebelious) race team would be insulting. Now if they offer a Charger Super Stock Version that's another story.

looks great but I agree with csubowtie, it is the c-pillar rearward that is the real problem of the current design.
If they make the rear as good looking as the front, they have a winner.

It seems like a solid evolution of the current design. Not too shabby. But it would be nice to see the rest of the car. That being said, Im not very partial on the headlamp design. Hope that projectors will be an option at the very least. The hood design is pretty nice too. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. BTW, where's the 2011 Chrysler 300 at???

Well when I first got my EVO X a guy at the gym saw it and asked "is that the new MOPAR" (seriously), so I could see getting one of these so someone might ask "is that the EVO XI".
I've never really been a fan of modern Dodge cars but I kind of like this assuming the rest of the body has improved a bit and that new engine is upped in power as well. With the G8s life short lived I really could see this as a nice daily driver cruising type car for the family. In some ways it appeals to me more than a CTS V (which I find the styling kind of bling'y). The 300s I've driven (usually rentals) have always felt rock solid once you overcome the horrid V6s in the rental fleet.

The 5-speeds in modern Chryslers are sourced from Daimler and required by and old, terrible contract. And yes, they suck.

Looks like a Chrysler did a great job on it. I have never heard of any problems with the 5 sp autos in Chyrslers. Unlike my wifes 2010 Honda Odyssey that has failed twice before the 20k mark. Even so, that was a Daimler ttras from the get-go. Lay the blame with MB not Chrysler. I wouldn't say it looked anything like a Evolution. I didn't even think Mitsubishi was still selling cars here anymore. I thought they went away with Isuzu, Daewoo, and Daihatsu.

the Ramchargers were famous for taking dime a dozen straight 6 family sedans and making race cars out of them. Get my connection now?
They have something much better to work with then the old boys did too. The Charger is a good car to begin with and the R/T and SRT8 are great.
Unlike a lot of people I`m cheering for Dodge to be a big player in upcoming years. The Charger only needs some refinement and maybe a bit more muscle to compete with cars twice it`s price.

From an historical perspective, this is the front end that should have gone on the 2011 Chrysler 300. If you look at the 1960 Chrysler 300F it is remarkably similar. So I think one can say that Dodge was inspired by one of its past family members and for us to put the "copying the Mitsubishi Evo" claim to rest.

The front end is nicely freshened, but Fiat-Chrysler has a lot more to do to bring this car forward and make it successful once again. The car was fresh and exciting when it first appeared years ago, but Daimler-Chrysler let it go too long without updates or investment. It's got a cheap, rental car interior and an underpowered base engine. Pull that sheet back farther -- let's see how Fiat has addressed these weaknesses.

First of all let me say that the teaser shot in no way even begins to do this car justice!!!! Also they went not only far enough.....they went a mile further. The mere mention of this new HERO car and the crown vic is nothing more than a travesty!!!!!!! As far as aggressiveness, let's just say that this car would love to invite you in for a cup of tea, and then beat the living shit out of you, and any other car at the light. Including a 900 lb. lighter evo. The interior has defenitely climbed miles above its "rental car" predecessor. Trust me. I have personally seen the entire uncovered, droplet free car and to say that I was impressed would be the epitome of an understatement! It is almost out of the realm of possibility that this car would be able to be upstaged. Especially by the same people that made it. But yes the new 300 gets it done as well. I just can't wait to see the uneducated, misinformed, researchless, backless complaints about that one. Because yep you guessed it, I have seen that one too.
