Mini Coupe Confirmed for U.S. Sales in Summer 2011; Roadster to Follow in Early 2012

minis-1600.jpg

Mini officials have already confirmed the production of the Coupe and Roadster Concepts shown at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. And just yesterday, VP of Mini USA, Jim McDowell, gave out some hard dates for their arrival.

After a speech to the Motor Press Guild here in L.A., McDowell was asked how soon we can expect the vehicles. "The Coupe will come six months after the Countryman and the roadster six months after that," McDowell told the assembled journalists. The Countryman is due in February of next year.

Kinda strange Mini is waiting on the Roadster, but we're guessing that's more complicated to build compared to the coupe. Either way, we're glad to see Mini getting back to producing smaller vehicles instead of steadily larger ones.

From what they told me at the LA auto show, these are front wheel drive cars. They are great if the world does not have rear drive FT86s and Miatas.

Mini has been showing for a half century that FWD can beat RWD when done right. You should try driving one, amazing handling car.

Not saying it's better then a Miata, just different.

I don't get why you'd want this car in a coupe. It's still the same size (from what I can tell) except they took what little space there was and eliminated it by BMW X6'ing the roofline. Yuck!

Now, as a convertible, it looks much better.

how much is the roadster? anyone with good info?

Little space? My 2007 Cooper S had plenty of interior space and it was actually more useful in terms of the front than say my 2010 Mazda3.

I'd like to know the weight of the coupe? If it shed over 250 lbs I'm very interested. I loved my Cooper but lighter is always better. :)

The two-seater drop-top Mini is flat-out awesome, though I'll probably never buy another two-seater car. Perhaps I would have bought this if I didn't have such a toy already. Or maybe I could trade ...

But cancel that Mini coupe abomination already!

The coupe looks awesome in my opinion. The roadster is nice, but nothing new.

I think they both look awesome. Minis are still too frou-frou for my tastes but a JCW Coupe sounds like a legitimate sports car replacement (probably for a price tag getting dangerously close to $40k, though...)
