SVT's 2011 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew Will Have 6.2-liter V8 Only

fourdoor_raptor_717.jpg

Ford confirmed today that the SuperCrew version of the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor fun truck will be a 2011 model and will have the 6.2-liter V8 exclusively. This iron-block engine borrowed from the 2011 Super Duty line and retuned for the Raptor is rated at 411 horsepower (at 5,500 rpm) and 434 pound-feet of torque.

The 6.2-liter is optional for the original extended-cab Raptor (right, the Raptor SuperCab), and when you select it, the six-speed automatic transmission gets an off-road mode that allows for longer gear holding and more linear throttle response in sticky situations.

Though Ford hasn't yet released pricing for the 2011 F-150 SVT Raptor SuperCrew, it's likely to be a couple grand above the $41,995 sticker for the 2010 Raptor SuperCab with the 6.2-liter V8.

I don't get the power complaints for the 5.4, I did notice the transmission upshifting too soon ,my brother just got a supercab with the 5.4 and I felt it had pretty good power even at our 6500ft altitude.

jeepsrt, I'm kind of in the same boat. I occasionally drive an Expedition with a 5.4L. It's a massive vehicle and it's not underpowered. It's not fast, but it's not slow. It's more than enough for most people. The drivetrain is also very smooth.

I had a '06 F-150 with the 5.4. I'll tell you this: the biggest thing that sucked about it, for both acceleration and mpgs', was the fact that it only had a 4-speed. It was especially bad for towing.

I haven't driven the 6-speed, but I would love to give it a try.

However, I would most definitely bump up to the 6.2. Why? More power is always a good thing!

As much as it would be nice, I will wait for the 6.2 in the regular models. We barely had enough room in the garage (width wise) with my FX4. This beast is almost 8 inches wider.

No manual transmission yet? Not interested.

I wonder what the difference in MPG's will be? as a current college student i can only cross my fingers and hope the new generation of high MPG electro/hybrid super fun sucking ESP standard and ABS standard eco friendly vehicles don't kill off all these awesome trucks before i can afford one! my generation is screwed for fun muscle vehicles.....

You're joking right?

Your generation has the most amazing collection of fun muscle machines in history.

Engine power has more then doubled since I was in college in the early 80's. Back then a V8 Camaro had around a 140 HP. A Prelude with 100 HP was consided fast.

There is nothing to suggest that anything will change soon unless the public decided they don't want power anymore. The car makers build what sells and technology has found ways to make that work in the new world.

Wagon,

The SUV/truck market officially died for a while when gas hit $4/gal and oil hit $135+ a couple years back. When it hurts that much to fill up your truck/suv again, then public interest will change.

That's probably a couple years away, but watch the oil/gas prices go up as the economy recovers...

Unlike the lighter 5.4-liter Raptor, I don't think the 6.2-liter Raptor will get an MPG rating. Its curb weight is just barely greater than 6,000 lbs, and that's one of two ways (the other is a GVWR > 8,500 lbs, something the Raptor does not trigger) to earn an exemption from testing, for the time being.

Even the 5.4-liter's MPG rating (14 city/18 highway) is a wish because that rating REALLY applies to a standard F-150 4x4. The Raptor's 4.10 gears and huge-mungous tires didn't have to be independently certified because of its low sales volume relative to all other 5.4-liter F-150 4x4s.
