GM Media Archives opened up the vaults to pull this one out: A 1960 Documentary about Corvette racing at the famed 24-hours of Le Mans narrated by famed Corvette racer, Dick "The Dentist" Thompson.
Grab some popcorn and a soda, sit back and enjoy. We can't think of a better way to celebrate Memorial day weekend than Corvettes noising up the French countryside.
Ground-pounding American thunder, baby.

Wow, that was pretty cool. They did pretty well, considering. And today they're doing better than pretty well.

Way cool, but did anybody else note the conspicuous absence of the name Chevrolet? At the end he refers to the 'marques' Ferrari, Aston Martin and Corvette as if it were it's own company and not a model built by Chevrolet.

To some extent that continues today, as the Corvette is run as a project by a dedicated team. Or it was last I checked. It really could be its own brand.

Has anybody ever heard The Grand Prix of Gibralter by Peter Ustinov? It's hilarious. Tons of characters and the sounds of a Grand Prix, all voiced by Ustinov. Unbelievably talented guy. But the reason I bring it up is that it's VERY similar to the voiceover of this documentary. I'm wondering if Ustinov heard this documentary way back in the day and then based his satire directly on it.

Great stuff, and sounds like a lot of fun. The narrator is very respectful of the other performances, making it sound like a grand carnival of cars.

Hahah, the E-Type was still a prototype then!!! Amazing! Overall, this was an interesting documentary. Liked it a lot. Thanks IL for showing.

The #3 car, shown in this 50 year old film, some of you may know, has been fully restored to its race configuration of 1960 and is being taken back to LeMans next week for the 50th anniversary of its historic (class) win at LeMans in 1960. It's owner, Lance Miller, is taking the car, along with one of its
original drivers, legendary John Fitch, to LeMans for the marking of the anniversary. It's going to be an historic few days in Corvette and racing history, as Lance fulfills his late father's dream of taking the car back.
My production company is producing a feature-length documentary on the whole history of this car and you can view a five minute overview/preview here:
