We've heard before that Cadillac would be getting a large, 7-passenger crossover based on GM's Lambda platform architecture (already used for the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia), but that was back before GM went into bankruptcy and emerged as a leaner, cleaner company with government backing.
Today, Karl Stracke, the automaker's vice president of global engineering, told Inside Line that a Lambda-based Cadillac crossover is absolutely a go.
We don't have any information on timing, yet, and we're taking a liberty here and speculating that the eventual large crossover will have a face like the Cadillac XTS concept unveiled this year in Detroit.
A version of the company's direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 is the obvious source of motivation for the Caddy crossover, but perhaps GM will experiment with turbocharging to find a little more power for it.

Poor Cadillac...it was so close to getting on the right track.
No Ultra V8; the return of FWD; Mexican-built vehicles; the death of unique motors; sharing platforms with lesser brands; no advanced powertrains; canceled flagship sedan; the awful 3.0L; the lack of direction with advertising; the price hikes on the CTS without adding a corresponding value of content....
So freaking maddening.

I thought that the "new" GM was going to put an end to badge engineering so as to avoid diluting the value of their numerous brands.

I like the idea. I think it will be too pricey though. Beautiful design in the pic above, gorgeous.
I love the GM naysayers, you guys are funny.

Just make the next Escalade a REAL Cadillac. Put air suspension on it, style it so that it looks more aerodynamic and sporty, and you're ahead. Stop damaging the proud old brand. NO MORE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE!!!! Leave luxurious Lambdas to Buick for crying out loud.

I'm waiting to see a comment about "hell no, this ain't going to be a rebagde... the lights will be different, the doors will be different, the seats will be different, etc"
LOL, perhaps Caddy might install a V8 in this one so it'd be all different.
Can IL ask Strackle if GM has find the fix to the infamous water leaking problems on the Lambda platform yet?

The only feasible reason for this thing is to put more models in the showrooms of stand-alone Cadillac dealers. I'm sure they can use the help, but I don't see how you market this without hurting the Buick model. They're doing alright selling 3 versions. Maybe this signals the eventual end of the truck based models. I'm just trying to understand the marketing here, if that's possible.

Badge engineering is such a cash cow you had to know they couldn't stay away long... or at all really.
Counting the now gone Saturn version that will 5 varients of the same big wagon.
Sounds like the same ole GM to me.

I'm torn. I'm really interested to see what it is going to look like. I like what Cadillac has done recently, and would be very interested in this iteration of the Lamba.
But I'm with straliner54. This could really hurt Buick. Not to mention that GMC is coming our with a Denali version of the Acadia.
So this seems to come down to, "which badge are you going to be happy telling your friends is on your Lambda?"
half_ton says:

The Lambda platform itself is fine for this type of vehicle just not so many variants.
I personally have expressed my HATRED of three-row-quasi-minivan-soccer-mom-family-vehicle-CUV's enough so I'll just simply say I could care less.

Look guys, nobody wants to see this badge engineering junk. FWD-based CUV's and a new flagship in a brand that's trying to position itself with the European RWD-based luxury brands is clearly a misdirection of Cadillac. And I will always be puzzled why the axed the Super Sigma platform. But consider this, has anybody considered the cost un-effectiveness of developing exclusive RWD-based platforms for Cadillac to really position itself where it needs to be?

It is not good situation about Cadillac have joined to more FWD luxury brand Lincoln, Audi, Acura, half Lexus and half Chrysler. I think popular will not need buy new brand FWD luxury vehicles. it is called "Junkie Luxury Automobile" is mean It is not RWD luxury cars. everyone people are real worry about real luxury and ultra cars will more ruin many models with RWD layout and performance engines are goods. if it will might out of business for real luxury brands. it is not good economy. I think people love more prefect luxury Rolls Royce Phantom or Ghost is best for more wedding more than old Lincoln Town Car.

Regardless of whether or not I agree with the existence of this vehicle (I don't), I am very concerned about how it will look. I went from curious interest to extreme distaste of the new SRX, and I can't see this 'design language' being translated onto any more vehicles. It will end badly for us all.

There is no "new" GM ....there is only the "old" GM with a few less debts. The pic above is just gross (it looks like the Joker from Batman) Soon 1487 will be around to tell us that badge engineering is a great thing.....what a waste of taxpayer money.
albook says:

I guess this would be the new Escalade, as Motortrend reported about a year ago. I firmly believe that it could be differentiated enough to be almost unrecognizable as a lambda, and would look great with the Caddy design language, and with the right engine and handling would drive like the Q7 and other competitors. But it would still hurt the brand's image because so many would still consider it badge engineering. Cadillac should just give the current Escalade a facelift and let it continue until 2014. By then the brand will have more money.
And for those who are confused, the picture above isn't a chop, its just the front view of the XTS concept.

I really want to love Cadillac and I really want to want to buy one, but I don't. The new SRX is dissapointing to me. The Lower trim levels look cheap, and in general all of the gray plastic on the bottom is a huge turnoff. Still the old GM
rsholland says:

I'm sure it will look great, as do all the latest Caddys. However, I am concerned about more badge-engineered cars from the General. This will mean four vehicles that are essentially pretty much the same under the skin.
Yeah, I'm sure Caddy will try to differentiate it from its lesser GM brethren, but I'm not sure that will be enough. Hope I'm wrong.

The CTS is still a very marketable brand, especially with the new coupe. This however, this is a total rebadge job.... GM just doesn't learn, they're like a dog with a poor short term memory. GM is engineering new DI V8 engines due to come out by 2015, and I am sure if they bump up the HP in the CTS by next year, they will be better suited for some actual comp comparisons like in 2008 When this comes out, the 3.6 DI better be the intro, with a 5.7 L DI V8 for those willing to pay for it. No more push rod. If Ford can do it, then so can GM
kevm14 says:

It's only rebadging for GM haters because they named this CUV platform. If it had no name, and another company badge on it, different sheet metal, seats, interior would be called "smart engineering" and "platform sharing." But when it's GM and we can assign a name to the platform, it's simply badge engineering. Makes no sense to me.
And by the way, I also *HATE* the CUV class. Wagons became passe, enter minivan. Minivans were passe, enter SUV. SUV becomes environmentally unethical to drive (apparently), enter the tall, ugly, less-efficient-than-a-real-wagon wagon. Ahh, the circle of life.

firstwagon says:

What's the big deal?
Easy. Chevy makes a decent car. If all you want is a decent car, why pay for a Cadillac?
The CTS showed us they could do more, now we expect it.
Otherwise, why continue Cadillac?

Well, I understand the feelings/comments here.
I want to add something thou.
For instance, an all new example; there is this modular sports car system (MSS) that will be shared among VW, porsche and Audi for a row of upcoming cars, like the new Audi R4.
They will also share the steering, the brakes and the 7 speed dual clutch.
Of course, the sheetmetal and the interiors are different for each brand.
GM seems its doing the same here. So?
And second, the vast majority of the consumers will know NOTHING of this techno crap, they will see the sheetmetals, they will see the badges, they will have test drives, they will compare prices, they will simply buy whatever appeals to them. So?
Just food for thought.

Welll First Off -
This si Not Replacing the Escalde, I got the following from Wiki -
General Motors has cancelled the planned replacement for the GMT900 SUVs.[6] The automotive press has speculated that the Escalade nameplate may move to the Lambda crossover platform.[7] However, GM has announced it has resumed work on its fullsize SUV's.[8] The Lambda based Cadillac will still go into production however, to compliment the new Escalade.[9]
On February 13, 2010 according to a report on Autoblog.com, GM has reissued an redesign on the GM fullsize SUV lineup, including the Escalade, for a 2013 release due to increased SUV sales.
Secondly
I think its a good idea to get a better crossover for Cadalliac becaue I honestly feel that the SRX was screwed over. This will be an improvement and since its supposed to Compliment the Escalde - GMC will have to design it better so Im not worried.
