It's just a rumor. I repeat, it's just a rumor. It is unconfirmed. But we have heard it more than once now. And we're starting to think it's true.
Audi will soon launch a hotter version of the R8. We're not sure if that means more power. We're not sure if that means less weight. Heck, it could mean both. It has worked for sister brand Lamborghini, which just launched the 2011 Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera.
And like the Gallardo Superleggera we are also hearing that the hotter R8 will remain all-wheel drive. As one person said to us, "There will be no Balboni version of the R8." He was of course referring to Lamborghini Gallardo Balboni, which was rear-wheel drive only.
