How exciting does an event called Fiat Investor Day sound? Pretty awesome, right? Like you get to start an all-day conference at 6:00 am with PowerPoint presentations dealing with things like Industrial Capex/Depreciation & Amortization.
But wait, in addition to keeping Chrysler on life support, Fiat also happens to produce something called Ferraris and Maseratis. And those happen to be part of the Fiat business too, if a small one.
Make the jump for the details on the next four years of Ferrari and Maserati vehicles.
Fiat's big plan for Ferrari boils down to this: more of the same. The company will introduce a new model every year through 2014, according to the presentation. That begins, of course with the pretty new 458 Italia mid-engine sports car. For 2011, Ferrari will unleash the replacement for the not-so-pretty 612 Scaglietti and also the 458 Italia Spider. The big year will be 2012, at which point Ferrari will unveil a new 599 GTB and also a new Enzo super-duper-extra-super car.
Each model series will last for four years, after which Ferrari will update the model and add the "M" suffix to its name, presumably standing for modificata. That will see the car through another four years until an entirely new version is ready. The first of the current "M" cars will be the California M in 2013.
Ferrari will, of course, continue to build special edition vehicles such as the recently revealed 599 GTO and the 458 Scuderia, which should arrive in 2013
Maserati's big news is its intention to produce a new smaller sedan, priced between 55,000 and 70,000 Euro (or $74,000 to about $90,000 at current exchange rates). This vehicle, widely thought to be a sort-of BMW M5 fighter will apparently "exploit Maserati 'DNA'." This proves that Italians are not immune from American-style corporate-speak. The company will also produce an all-new Quattroporte with "completely new style" sometime in the near future. And the more recently unveiled GranTurismo coupe and convertible will hang around in basically their current for at least through 2014 according to the company presentation.

I must say that I'm extremely concerned for the wellfare and futur of the House of the Trident. Ferrari will always be a prevelant supercar automaker, but I feel that Maserati is really drowning even though it is under the Fiat umbrella along side Ferrari. I know that Maserati's are in a different class altogether, as in more of a Luxury brand which honestly is what attracts me the most to these cars. BUT can't they shock the population and rev up their sales by designing and producing perhaps a crazy, aggressive supercar???? The Gran Turismo MC Stradale is a good start, BUT it still only has 450 horses.....what about sharing more of Ferrari's DNA and making a beast bousting 600 bhp??? I'm just wondering if avid Ferrari buyers would possibly be attracted to a beefy Gran Turismo w/some racing seats, bare interior and stout, intricate aerodynamics. I just don't want to see my favorite car company in the world go under b/c when people think of super cars AND Italia....Maserati is not a company that is in the forefront.
