topgear_stig_blog.jpg

Now it's on, now it's off, and now, thanks to a report from an official source, TopGear's Transmissions blog, the American version of TopGear is back on again.

Ten episodes of TG America, or however it's titled, will air this fall on the History Channel (dates TBA). Your hosts will be the multitalented driver Tanner Foust, comedian Adam Ferrara and NASCAR commentator Rutledge Wood.

Sweet. I can't wait to see how the History Channel manages to screw this up.

I'm so glad Speed Channel didnt get rid off one of its 20 NASCAR programs to make room for this (roll eyes)

Foust may be a very talented driver, but he is painful to watch as a commentator. I would suggest they make him Stig's American cousin, but I don't think his ego would permit him to drive normally around a racetrack.

as long as they aren't afraid to say bad things about the cars it could be good.

I'm happy with the real Top Gear and don't want some bizzaro top gear rip off.

"Pro- NASCAR commentator Rutledge Wood......"

Can we please get the NASCAR Commentator out of the room..... :(

Yet another reason I'm glad I don't have cable tv.

People never learn...next thing you know, they're be making a lame American rendition of "The Office".

*hopes the Top Gear America test track is a 1 mile oval*

I don't think tanner has the personality and respect of the automotive world outside of drifting. But it's always worth a shot watching. But as many of the people who watched the Euro office, they didn't really like the US version. But yes many rip offs do work over here. I just don't get why the real one isn't the subject.

The $3 budget the US version will get will make for terrible tv....TG seemingly has deeeep pockets over there.

No Adam Carolla? Wasn't he the main personality when TG America was first discussed?

I'm with -sabastian- on this one. Please tell me that's a typo.

Hmm, will I not watch it because it's not the British version or will I not watch it because of my boycott of all non-history-related History Channel shows?

I love the History channel. Heres hoping they do a good job with TG America...

NASCAR commentator Rutledge Wood as Captain Slow - I think it's very ironic:)))

blueguydotcom says:

No interest. There is only one Jezzer, one Captain Slow and one Hamster. We revere the BBC show.

lvranger says:

Please tell me you meant Adam Carolla.

I'm not holding my breath for this.

(Finally made an account here to say that? Pfft. I must be bored.)

Top Gear is Clarkson, Hammond, and May, period. It's not just a car show, it's really about three friends goofing off doing what they love. I don't see how any knockoff could match that...unless they had gone with my original idea and had Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, and Tim Allen be the hosts. That might have been worth watching...maybe. But nobody was ever going to pay for that level of talent to host a car show in the US.

I think we all know where this is going. Within about 2 episodes they'll drop a piano on a Ford Maverick and then we'll be supposed to think that's funny.

mungmibear says:

Why don't they just buy the program from BBC, so BBC can afford to expand their episodes all year long.

"No Adam Carolla? Wasn't he the main personality when TG America was first discussed?"

Maybe they saw his last name and recalled him too?

Have any of you folks seen Top Gear Australia? It's pretty good... I enjoy watching it. As long as they have the challenges and cheap car contests and everything I think it'll be good. And they'll stop bashing America, well, with luck.
