2011 Porsche 911 GT2 With Rollcage Tests in Germany

No Porsche 911 family is complete until the mindlessly quick, rear-drive 911 GT2 shows up. This week, a black GT2 was spotted running laps on the Nurburgring and patrolling the outlying roads. Expect an official unveiling for the  2011 Porsche 911 GT2 before year's end.

All the usual GT2 tells are apparent on this prototype. In front, there's the enormous chin spoiler. And, as you move around the body, you see those wide rear hips enclosing wider wheels and wider rubber.

Cut into those hips are cooling ducts for the engine, which will almost certainly be a direct-injected version of Porsche's twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter flat-6 making at least 530 horsepower but probably more like 550.

In back, the GT2's signature wing is in place in all its gangly glory, along with a dual-exhaust setup.

Interesting details on this particular 911 GT2 are the black-painted center-lock wheels -- the same design as on the 2010 911 GT3 we tested. Also note the rollcage and the dab of yellow paint on the alcantara-trimmed steering wheel -- typically equipment seen only on the 911 GT3 RS. And you can't miss the red seatbelts, which are familiar from the 2008 911 GT2 we tested.
