Tanner Foust is the most underrated, awesome driver ever.

The sad thing is some idiot kids will watch this video, buy a Scion, and wonder why they can't do that in their Scion. Sorry, but if a car brand is going to sponsor a car like this, there should be a requirement that they at least produce the car in the same drive configuration for consumers (i.e. RWD).

600 hp + tube frame racecar + RWD + awesome driving = Epic Video

Nicely done. Foust is an awesome driver, plus that stretch of highway is extremely fun to drive, so at least I can live out my tire-smoking fantasies through this video. Also, that one-off Scion is pretty slick. I'd love to get my hands on a RWD, PUSHROD V8, IRS, featherlite anycar. I'm sure this thread will lead to Toyota bashing, but auto racing wouldn't exist if manufacturers didn't build and promote fantasy cars.

I don't even know why the call the car Scion. Looks like nothing of Scion is there except for bodywork.
TF is no doubt excellent driver, but there are tons of japanese drifting videos out there, same thing.

I'm from Kansas. I don't know what those things he's going around are. I think I read about them in a book once... called 'corners' or something like that. Can someone explain them to me?
I'm jealous. Damned section-line state. Thank God for the man-made reservoir north of here or I would go mad from jealousy.

The video is super cool and TF's skillz are amazing. Its mad fun to watch! But what's perplexing is the car? V8 RWD 600 HP Scion? Come on it's kind of ridiculous. Guess I'm salty cause absolutely nothing like this exists in the real toyota stable well short of the LFA. Lets see Tanner drift that!

I am underwhelmed. Was this a Rockstar commercial?
felonious says:

I want you to notice that the roads are clean of tire marks before he goes by, so either the production crew has amazing attention to detail or that video was made on his first (and probably only) run. That makes the feat even more amazing!

Awesome video, but some wanna be drifters are going to try it later on at night! Want to drift with a cheap Toyota? Get a 70's or early 80's Corona RWD and drop your power plant of choice!
fastspeed3 says:

@greenpony You should see some of the Ken Block Monster commercials.

More sticky gas pedals for Toyota......
run_and_drive says:

Like felonious said, that was probably his first and only run. I'm way-impressed.
OF course, the fact that his car has ZERO anything from Scion in it makes me never want a Tc... even more than I already never wanted one.
Perhaps the RWD Toyobaru thing will lead to a RWD coup from Scion...

so does this mean that if I drink Rock Star, I'll be able to drive like this guy?

To paraphrase The Bard himself:
"[Drifting] is a [sport of] idiot(s), full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
beermagazine says:

Drifting actually is pretty cool to see in person and once you see the speed and the control it's very impressive. Very fast cars and very good drivers. It's sort of like Drag Racing...you don't "get it" until you see it.
flwind says:

Nice video. Funny everybody complaining about the car not being a *real* Scion. Do you all complain because a Nascar Impala can go 200mph and the one sitting in your drive way cannot?
run_and_drive says:
10:29 AM, 03/18/10
I highly doubt the people who are commenting about the scion even watch NASCAR...
Or own an Impala (by choice)...
stovt001 says:
04:25 PM, 03/18/10
@flwind, yes, I do complain that NASCAR vehicles are nothing like the cars they claim to be. This is no different.
And 05stangdriver is right, this is all "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." OK it can be cool in some instances, but in this case they're just driving on a great road in a very inefficient manner.
tonkatoytruck says:
09:03 PM, 03/18/10
I heard this driving style was first stumbled upon by some kids that were wearing their pants around their ankles and drifting was the result of having to hold them up over their boxer shorts while driving.
flwind says:
12:00 PM, 03/19/10
@05stangdriver - Same thing can be said about Nascar, Drag racing, Formula 1 racing..Come to think of it, same thing can be said about any kind of racing. Drifting may not be the end all be all of motorsports but it certainly is a lot more entertaining than watching a bunch of cars going around in a circle for 4 hours.

WTF!? You need to stop buying new cars and pick up a Supra for yourself. It only has one of the strongest blocks ever dropped in a production car, plus 50/50 dist., plus driver oriented controls.. MKIV w/ 2JZ-GTE ftw. Toyota ftw.
