You didn't think the 2011 Ford Fiesta was going to be stuck with a wimpy 120-horsepower, four-cylinder forever did you? Well, maybe you did, but our latest spy photos prove there's a hotter version of the Fiesta hatchback in the works.
As you can see, this Fiesta prototype not only looks a little different on the outside, it appears to have a few hardware upgrades as well. The faint sight of an intercooler up front confirms that the presence of an Ecoboost powerplant. Exactly which one is tough to tell at this point. Ford has already officially announced that it will build both 1.6- and 2.0-liter versions of the Ecoboost four-cylinder, but rumors of a 1.4-liter version have also been thrown around.
Also note the new set of wheels, low-profile performance tires and dual exhaust tips. Not a bad combination of upgrades eh? Expect to hear more about the Fiesta with Ecoboost later this year.

Looks pretty good. I'd love it if they called it a SVT Fiesta. :)
Also, sorry to nitpick but paragraph two, sentence two: site -> sight.

I saw that car...literally in person the other day, thought it was weird cuz I didn't remember the stock US fiesta having dual exhaust...and of course I didn't have my camera...
Would be excited to see this as a hot hatch

I could go for an SVT Fiesta. I really liked the example I sat in at the LA Auto Show. Ford is using the Fiesta for some Rally programs, so I'd take that as a promising sign that a performance Fiesta will be produced. The big question is, will we get it in the States?
jederino says:

All it needs is at least 250 bhp and the Revo-Knuckle...

Amen! This will make an awesome, fun car. But please don't change the bumper to look like the US spec Fiesta pluuuuuuze!!! Ford -- ARE YOU LISTENING? The US spec bumper takes away the sexiness from the car. The lines become blah! <-- my two cents.
iwannaturbo says:

Agreed. I'll add it needs to be in the 5 door flavor as well.

bc1960 says:

Presumably they won't build US-spec 3-doors just for a performance version, so the production model would be a 5-door--or if early 5-door sales are good, would we get a regular 3-door as well?
xorbe says:
01:06 PM, 03/18/10
5-door 1.6T please! Maybe even a 1.4T if it has a wide powerband. Ford could really rock the boat here!!

I commend the staff @ InsideLine for their astute observations & stories, however, no mention of this being a 3door, instead of the 5 door? Don't get me wrong, I love 5 door hatches, wanted a 5door SVT Focus pretty badly. But seeing as how the previous ZX3 sold well, and the Focus Coupe, not so much, I think ford needs to bring this back. The market still exists.

calspecial68 says:

They should create a wider wheelbase with the rest of the performance upgrades (ecoboost and revo-knuckle) called the XR2 like niallyb has said.
I'd like mine in Performance White please, with dark trim and wheels.
Also, an upgrade is needed for the interior once you get the performance version, cuz its looks good but could look better.

Looking at the close up of the tailpipes ...
... the chrome of the driver's side tailpipe looks shiny and the passenger's side looks darker.
Could it be that the second tailpipe is fake?

Man, nice ride! It certainly beats Honda Fit for aggressive look overall. The back looks the best, very sophisticated. Front is okay, may need some air dam or something like Evo X. Also, Ford needs to change their logo with just the letter "F" in cursive.

Wow, I love the look, like the fact that it's a small displacement turbo charged engine, and I really like that it will most likely have good fuel economy without having only 120hp. Things I would change, the car would be better off with AWD, a more aggressive stance, and better looking wheels. But overall Ford has definitely made a change for the good! I personally love their new philosophy(small displacement high horsepower engines with good MPG), and really love all their newer models!

Hot little car! Guess they got a lot of turbo votes when they had their little Fiesta survey, I know I voted for it. Anyhow, wouldn't get my hopes up that this will be available in the US until something official comes out. You know how car makers always have a knack for giving Americans the shaft on hot cars such as this.

What self-respecting man drives a vehicle called a "Fiesta"? Sorry ford, I can't be talking cars with a bunch of gearheads and be asked, "What do you drive?"
"Who me? Oh I drive a FIESTA! Jealous?"
Then again, I AM from LA... maybe I'm a tad too polluted by the "image is everything" mindset...

I really hope the automakers start adding the option to turn of ESC if they do then sigh me up for this eco warrior!

I've been trying to figure out why this car has such comparatively little cargo room... then realized that the hatchback is freakin' 13" shorter than the sedan. It's the same thing they did with the current model WRX. This defeats the whole purpose of getting a hatchback (for me) which is increased functionality.
That's well and good for inertia blah blah for rally racing (or so went the justification for the WRX), but i'd rather have the extra space.

With all the powerplants, transmissions, and platforms (at least to North America), there's going to be no shortage of excitement from Ford for QUITE a while.
Of course, the dirtiest little secret continues to be how so many people have so little idea of the terrific vehicles Ford has always made in Europe, and that the hometown crowd STILL can't get them.
eki79 says:
12:43 AM, 04/ 9/10
The previous Fiesta ST had 150bhp, so I'm guessing the next one might have the 1.6 EcoBoost 180bhp to rival with Seat's Ibiza Cupra and VW:s Polo GTi (both have the 1.4TSI 180bhp engine).
aggiesa says:
10:18 PM, 04/11/10
Looks GREAT. It is about time the US starts getting some of the fun cars that the Europeans have been enjoying for years. Definitely one of the few positive outcomes to come out of the economic jolt over the past 2 years.

Awesome hot little hatch. I give Kudos to Ford for getting their $hit together and delivering way better vehicles in the last couple of years. I was thinking about getting a Fit in the next couple of years but if this thing is really coming to the US, I will definately wait and get one of these instead. One bump though...I do agree with whytecountry, if Ford does green light this concept the only thing they need to change is the FIESTA name. Call it as mentioned above ZX2 or something of that sort but please totally remove the Fiesta nameplate from this otherwise hot hatch.
