The armor has now come off the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK and it doesn't look half bad. Actually it's starting to look even more like the big SL, at least from behind.
Up front, you can see that the grille will borrow a few design cues from the SLS supercar, or maybe it's Dodge that Mercedes is thieving from? In back, the lights are clearly LEDs, but it's hard to tell if they're going to be quite as swoopy as the ones on the upcoming CLS.
As finished as this SLK looks, we don't expect to see its official debut until sometime next year.

I really hate what the Euro pedestrian standards are doing to the front end of cars. Do Europeans get hit by cars that much, that cars have to have these vertical front facias? Have these changes reduced injuries? It reminds me of when NTHSA mandated cars should only have speedometers that go up to 85 mph because it would make people not exceed that speed.

I agree with throwback. I don't like the front end design of this car. Has anyone been able to determine whether or not any lives have been saved by having these tractor-like front ends? I'm not sure that I believe it.

Looks good. I'll reserve my judgment of the front until it is more visible.

With the camo, the front end looks like it belongs on a Dodge.

It only looks like a dodge because they used two thick pieces of tape to cover the mercedes badge. This just happens to make it look like a cross hair grill, i think it will look pretty much like the SLS. I also find it interesting looking at the headlights, if you look closely it looks like they added that pin striping to throw people off. You can kind of make out the real lines of the headlight behind the black tape, and no it doesn't have that sharp point pointing to the tire, which also makes it resemble a dodge.

@Chemeng, I was just gonna write that the camo makes this look like a Dodge corporate grill. And, yes, pedestrians do get hit quite a lot in all cities.

European cars are getting ugly. Is there any reason for that? oh! that BS pedestrian thing... Why don't they make US version and European version. Just like Elegant and Sports in C-class or E-class. What a ugly car..
