Months and months and more months ago we reported that BMW would not do an M1 version of the 1 Series. We had it on good authority from a source inside BMW. Still, the rumors of the car's existence have lit up every blog and forum the world over.
Well, today at the Geneva auto show, Inside Line has once again confirmed from a source inside BMW that the M version of the 1 Series will not happen. Got that, people? It will not happen.
"If we do something, it'll be a 135is like we've done with the Z4 and the 3 Series," the source told us with a wink.
So this fall look for BMW to introduce a 135is powered by a more powerful version of the twin-turbo N54 inline six-cylinder and a more aggressively tuned suspension.
That is all.

I understand you gotta report on the Geneva Auto Show. Might there be a way to group the posts together. I've minimal interesting in yet another auto show and I had to go past a zillion Geneva posts to find a non-Geneva posts.
Boo me if I'm the odd duck. ;)

BMW really needs to be careful how much they extend their alphanumeric names out. Continually adding on more numbers and letters that signify...something....will only serve to confuse the general public.

No, it will have a twin turbo inline 6. The N54 has been replaced by the single turbo twin scroll N55. It is said to have similar architecture to the N55. See the normal X6 and the thorough engine transformation done to get the X6M.

If you go to 1addicts, you`ll see the M1 is coming.

Dear BMW,
There has been only one M1. Please don't make another unless it is a two-seat, swoopy exotic like the first one. An "M1" based off the 1 Series would no doubt be a great machine, but would sully the memory of the original. As I said, there has been only one M1, and it should remain that way.
I vote for the 135is.
Sincerely,
sgude, a Bimmer fan
PS -- Stop screwing around with the naming convention! What is all this "S-drive," "X-drive" hoo-ha?

Shaking my head, I can't see how BMW could continue to make strategic mistake after mistake after mistake.

"I saw an M on the license plate."
That one stands for München. aka Munich.

barry3600, what makes you sooo certain a M1 will arrive. If they didn't show it now, it probably won't happen since the 1 series model will be getting a refresh soon enough.

BMW will announce the M1/1M in December. It goes on sale early next year and will have a very limited run.
