"Moparized" Dodge Ram Power Wagon Caught Before Jeep Rally

ram-pw-f34-1600.jpg
Let the Raptor-beating speculation begin! Actually this Dodge Ram Power Wagon was built for the 44th Annual Jeep Jamboree, so whether it's a real attempt to build a Ram that can compete with the Raptor is debatable.

According to a release put out today, Chrysler is building several vehicles for the annual event and all of them have been "Moparized." With that in mind, we're guessing this is more of an aftermarket parts exercise more than an actual production prototype. Still, the thing looks pretty cool on the road. Probably does well off road too. More pics after the jump.

Not quite a competitor for the Raptor. Simlar concept, different target market. It looks more like a mudder or mountain off-raod vehicle than the desert racer Raptor.

I want one horribly. I'm not even a redneck. I don't think I am atleast...Well lets see, I live in Texas, I love fishing, I was at Dale Jrs first nascar victory at Texas Motor Speedway, and I currently drive a Jeep Wrangler daily, so maybe I am kind of a redneck. I know a whole lot of other guys just like me who would drive that thing. That is BAD in the best possible way.

Id drive that...maybe drop the tire pressure and hit the dunes.

Interesting. The current PowerWagon is a Ram 2500 with a long cab, short bed, rear leaf spring suspension, and a 5.7L V8 only.
This specimen is a regular cab with a short, flare-side bed (not currently available). Additionally, the front and rear axles have 8-lug hubs, which are typically found on three-quarter or one-ton trucks. The rear axle has disc brakes and has floating axle shafts as evidenced by the smaller circle of bolt heads. The rear suspension appears to be five-link coil spring set-up similar to the half-ton Ram. The tires are the new BFG Mud Terrains, guessing near 35" tall.
This could be a real Raptor competitor.

Looks good without the crosshair being chrome.

gross. what an ugly piece of gas-gulping metal

Why did it take six comments before we got our first "gas-gulping" comment?

This thing looks mean. I would love to hit a Jamboree this year and see some of what they're bringing out. Especially if they, oh I don't know, had a Wrangler Unlimited version of the Lower Forty.

I would to see the actual specs on this beast. And see the variations. Capming spots would be endless.

Love it!
Looks like D60 sized axles and those are way bigger than 35" tires, they look like 40's or bigger BFG's.

Not a Raptor competitor at all. It's a rock & trail setup. The narrow, short bed and short wheelbase for tight trails and big tires for the rocks. SWB makes for great breakover too. Solid axles are for durability and crawling, not high speed long-travel IFS like the Raptor.

+1 cruiserhead1

It's a rock and trail truck.

As for gas gulping, bet it uses less then a Ford GT, Vette or Viper does on the track.

I would have thought that was very cool when I was 15. Now I'd be so embarassed to drive around in something like that.

BTW, rear brake lines are ridiculously exposed for something meant for hard offroad use.

Ahh... the wisdom comments of car guys who know nothing about trucks.

I love to hunt, fish, and camp in the outdoors as much as the next rural person, hell I'm from South Dakota.. but this.. wow. I'm truly sorry and am not trying to sound high and mighty or as if my opinion is any more valid then the next persons'.. but this looks absolutely terrible. Terrible with a capital T. Please Dodge don't make this. It's so bad I don't want to see one. My two cents..

I believe this is only a concept to show what is possible to do if you own a Ram, not a possible production vehicle.

Geez, it's 1975 all over again.
