Mercedes-Benz announced today that its gullwing wonder, the SLS, will go on sale in May of this year and will start at $183,000.
That's no small amount of money, but it's a whole lot cheaper than the phallic SLR it replaces. Let's see how that compares with some others in the class, as it were.
Mercedes-Benz SLS: $183,000
Audi R8 5.2 FSI: $150,200
Ferrari 458 Italia:$225,000
Lamborghini Gallardo:$208,000
Chevrolet Corvette ZR1:$107,830
Kia Soul Sport: $17,645
Aston Martin DB9: $179,450
Note: Some prices are for 2009 models. Some are for 2010 models. Either way, all of them are high.
Have a peep at the numbers we achieved in the SLS at our test track.

Haha... including the Kia Soul Sport as a vehicle in the same class. Love it!
Too bad the Aveo RS is just a concept and not a production car, since that would slot right in as well ;)
On a serious note, if I had that kind of dosh, I would be cross-shopping between the SLS and the R8 5.2, with an edge towards the R8. Too bad we don't have a current BMW M1 to compete with it.

If I had the kind of money for that list, it would be a very, very tough decision between the R8, SLS, and DB9. My wife loves Astons, the R8 is fairly practical and benign, and the SLS's cool gullwing design just does it for me for some reason.

I love my Kia Soul. It could use the DB9's V8 though. Love that rummmmmmmble.

The ZR1 is the bargain here, but if I rolled with that kind of dough for a new car, I would seriously consider the R8.

Is the SLS really in the same class as the ZR1, 458 or Gallardo? I think its more in the market segment with Bentley Continental, Aston DB9 and Ferrari California... its not a performance car, its an old man money mobile.

I mean who would buy this over a Kia Soul Sport???????
Me... but again would I choose this over a DB9? No...

Thanks for including the Kia in the list!

On that list I'd probably go for either the DB9 or the R8 5.2. The SLS just hasn't done it for me.

dougtheeng, the DB9 has a V12.

The Gullwing of course. Hot damn is this a sexy car. Of course I am a huge Porsche fan also so I might just choose an 911 Turbo...

If I had the cash, I'd buy 2 of the SLS. I'd put one in preservation and keep one for a daily driver. I'd love to unveil my storaged SLS 50 years from now with 1000 miles on it at a Barrett Jackosn auction and just wait for the bidding to begin
