GM Names New VP of Communications, Formerly Worked for Whitacre at AT&T

gm-250-4.jpg Less than a day after the big management moves, General Motors CEO Ed Whitacre has announced that Selim Bingol will replace Chris Preuss as GM's vice president of communications. He starts March 8.

Bingol is a senior partner and vice president at the public relations firm, Fleishmann-Hillard, where he has specialized in developing communications strategy. His history with that company goes back to 1989, but from December 2004 to August 2007, he took a break from Fleishmann and served as Ed Whitacre's VP of communications at AT&T.

For all that time on the job, there are precious few photos of Bingol, who has a B.A. in international relations from the University of Virginia. Not even his LinkedIn profile has an image. Currently, he and his family live in San Antonio, Texas.

I'm getting curious as to how this new GM will operate. There's a serious amount of shuffling going on and the new blood could make things interesting.

Nothing like hiring a bunch of your old telecom buddies to run a car business. GM's gotta get rid of all those pesky "car guys"....
