Acura TSX Sport Wagon to Debut at the New York Auto Show

Acura, maker of a wide range of pointy-faced sedans, crossovers and the ZDX, announced today that it will unveil the 2011 TSX Sport Wagon at the New York Auto Show on March 31. The company had previously acknowledged its intent to sell such a vehicle here. It just never said when it would be unveiled.

This strange creature, which will be available beginning late this fall, has a roofline that extends all the way from the top of the windshield to the rear-most point of the car, making what Acura refers to as "a new solution to modern utility needs." This radical configuration, known to industry insiders and futurists as a "station wagon," is said to offer efficient performance coupled with bold styling and versatile cargo capabilities.

The wagon will presumably be offered with either the 201-hp 2.4-liter four cylinder or the 280-hp 3.5-liter V6 already available in the TSX sedan. The company has not yet released photos of this oddity, however, it will look very, very much like the Accord Touring (pictured here) that's already on sale elsewhere in the world. Apply to the front of this car a can opener sized to pierce the world's largest can of Hawaiian Punch and you've pretty much got it.

if they sell it sans beak, its a good looking vehicle. but its going to get the beak, i'm sure.

D'oh, finally a good affordable real wagon with a real wagon sized cargo area, real wagon shape and overall size, and decent engine choices, and it will be saddled with despicable styling that I already swore on another post was a nonnegotiable deal-breaker for me. I wonder how hard it would be to get those European body panels to fix it?

Nice commentary about futurists referring to it as a "station wagon". I chuckled. Nice wagon. Bring it with our without the giant squid beak. Those can be easily replaced.

Looks pretty darn good as-is. Just say no to squid beak!!

I like this car very much (although less so I'm sure with the current Acura grill) but does anybody else see a lot of 1999 Sabb 9-5 wagon in it?

Yeah with out the current Acura grill this would be a nice family car. And it is so much better than the Honda Crosstour.

stovt001: "D'oh, finally a good affordable real wagon"

Affordable? It starts at $35K and goes up from there?

firstwagon says:

That is so much better then the Crosstour.

@brn - Right. I missed the $35K part, and for some reason when I wrote that I thought American Honda pricing rather than Acura/European Honda pricing. I take it back. Someone wake me when someone decides to come out with a real wagon starting in the low $20K range, offers 4 and 6 cyl engines (preferably with a diesel option as well) and multiple trim levels other than the Jetta sport wagon. Until then it looks like we have one option.

In what significant way does a Subaru Outback WAGON differ from an AWD Honda Accord Touring? I see none.

There is your station wagon in the 20s.

Very interesting... but $35K? Really? That's way too much, in my book.
Any chance it will have a 6spd M/T? That could help the cause. Really despising Acura's new front-end (works on the MDX, but that's about it).

tehnighthawk says:

I highly doubt this will be $35k. The base TSX sedan is $29,300, I'd say acura may tack on $1k premium for the wagon, but no more. And yes, the Euro Accord grille is a straight swap if you dont like the "beak".

brn says:

tehnighthawk, everything I've read suggests a $5K bump for the wagon. I wouldn't be surprised if they're dressing it up a bit to get attention.

I think the wagon will start around $33k NOT $35k.

That Honda is a handsome wagon! Lets see how much Acura f*cks it up when they add that disgusting plastic beak. Will it come with AWD and a stick?

snake69 says:

I could not agree more with all of you. The Acura beak ruins all. Why does Acura always mess things up. Here they have a great opportunity to showcase the new SHAWD and maybe a 6spd. Not to mention the best engine that Acura refuses to put into other cars. the 2.4turbo. can you imagine that package?

Reminds me of the old Saab 9-5 wagon, which is a good thing. I'd love to see more wagons on the road and less SUV/Crossovers. This is nice. Would do better as a Honda though than an Acura. Get rid of the useless Crosstour. That is silly.

I have been waiting for the TSX wagon for a LONG while now. My hopes about an Accord Wagon obviously never panned out, now that the "Crosstour" monstrosity got revealed.

Hope they don't load up the TSX wagon with the intention of draining out the consumers' wallet. Acura is known for well equipped, reasonably priced products and hope that trend would be maintained.

Im sure all you haters of the Acura Grill can get this Honda Grill on ebay for cheap and it would bolt right in.
