Well, the Hyundai Veloster prototype is out testing in the cold again and our spy shooters got some pretty good looks at it. It has roughly the same camouflage as before so there aren't many new details to see, but the rear view does reveal the shape of the back end, well a little bit anyway.
We're still expecting this new coupe to arrive sometime next year with a 140-hp four-cylinder engine under the hood.

THis thing is probably gonna max out at 18k and probably start at like 11k. I can see highschool/college kids getting it. Maybe...

Please don't have a torsion rear beam. At least a multi-link setup! And rear disc brakes!

Edmunds why do you keep guessing horsepower figures for the Hyundai / Kia's so low?
The new Forte comes with 150, base. 173 optional. those replaced the 140 hp iron block in the old spectra, which is shares with the Elantra. If this is going to be about that size it'll probably share the same engines. Hyundai normally liked to keep some of it's goodies from Kia though, so I think there might be even more.
@ jguan I don't think it'll weigh in at under 2500... The Accent weighs in at about that now.

@isend2c:
Because that's the horsepower number the CEO of Hyundai gave us, and he probably knows a thing or two about it.

Oh snap owned!
Ok, here is my .02, Motortrend reported the CR-Z would start at 24,000 if the Veloster comes in at 18 to 20 and puts out 140 combined ponies, then Honda has one heck of a fight on its hands! I personally want to see Honda get their ass handed to them for bringing such lack luster car to us.

Guys, its a Next Gen Accent Hatch,
Ill explain:
There's Nothing wrong with using the name of the second largest seller in its class in the US on such a revolutionary hatch poduct. If would only benefit Hyundai more actually. To take the Accent name and grow it like Golf, Civic, Corolla, MINI is what the car even needs more. Accent is becoming a hatch leader, that would only be better for the car with a “Halo” Hatch.
It uses the same powertrains as Next Gen Accent Sedan, and rides on the same platform. We know the company has said many times it will be “Smaller than Forte Coupe, and in fact Accent Sized." -John Krafick CEO Hyundai North America.
Exterior Dimensions:
Current Gen Accent Specs:
Wheelbase (in.) 98.4
Length (in.) 159.3
Width (in., excludes mirrors) 66.7
Height (in.) 57.9
Tread width (in., front/rear) 57.9/57.5
Curb weight (lbs., MT/AT) 2467/2504
Veloster Specs:
Length 161.4 inches
Width 70.5 inches
Height 57.1 inches
Wheelbase 102.4 inches

With GDI Elantra is moving up to the 170 HP range, with GDI Accent can move up to the 145 HP range. The KIA Rio will take the Accent's place in the Hyundai/KIA lineup, and it will have less powerful engines.
Engines:
1.6, 1.6 Turbo, Hybrid, and 2.0 Turbo.
This will be priced from $12-$19K
There will be high end features like leather, and sat nav too.

When you think about this car you have to think Accent all Grown Up, like the Gen Coupe is Tibby all Grown up and much more sophisticated. Remember, the Golf used to be the cheap car of its day, and look how its grown up. They are doing the same with Accent.
It will have a Window Kink-a feature that will end up on all Hyundai Hatch/Wagon/MPV/Coupe products, and the hexagonal Grille. The back will be like the Euro Civic wth that mid arching rear spoiler. The gauges will be like the Sonata, Gen Coupe, etc.... There will also be a standard screen (Hyundai Computer Informaton System, like the Euro i20) in the dash.
It will also have a rear passenger side door like a MINI Clubman.

CRAZZZZZZZZY!
Too much "veloster" name for a crappy 140hp engine? Maybe the low weight will offset that...

Abort the mission...why keep making these FUGLY type cars that do NOT sell. Invest in cars that look good and sell. Ask Honda and every other company that makes this abortion of a car if they sell...nope.

I dont care what you guys say. This Car will the be most beautiful B-segment car in America. It will add more energy and spice than Fiesta ever think of. The only thing that comes close to this car is Polo. Then again this car was designed to beat all Polo benchmarks,
Essentially, this car will be as beautiful as CRZ is dissappointing. They arent just designing a small car here, they are trying to design a "Halo" small car, an Iconic small car.

sabastian,
2.0 Turbo GDI puts out about 235 Horse and 35 MPG in a big Sonata. They annouced Today that Sonata will get one. I could Imagine in an Accent Sized hatch like this with that same engine getting 40+ MPG, and get a 5.7 something second time to boot.
cr_driver,
Hell no they wont call this production model Veloster, lol. The CEO confirmed that, by saying "No, no dont worry we wont call it Veloster." The Accent hatch gets replaced in 2012, and this will be a 2012 car. Why have 2 Hatches, Accent hatch and this using the same engines when you can just make them into one dynamic car?
Hyundai isnt a dumb company now.

They Will debut the Accent Sedan (Baby Sonata) in a few months anyway. I think by then we will know a whole lot more, and even see a live prototype of this hatch.

Veloster is looking good, and at 40mpg will definetly be a hit. I think this car has a better chance than the CRZ at attracting the old CRX crowd of tuners.
If you look, there is already a forum started LOL even though the car doesn't come out for 2 years. http://www.veloster.org
