Spy Photo: 2011 Chevrolet Aveo Revealed During Test Run

chevy-aveo-milford-1600.jpg
We already saw a near-production version of the next-generation Chevrolet Aveo at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. Now our spies have managed to catch a nearly undisguised prototype during testing in Detroit.

As you can see, the production Aveo looks as though it will carryover almost unchanged. And that my friends is probably a good thing as this Aveo looks like a pretty sharp little hatchback. You can argue about the nose all you want, but the rest of the car has nice short overhangs, a decent-sized greenhouse and nice proportions. Could be a decent alternative to the Honda Fit if the suspension is well sorted.

I assumed it was going up against the Fiesta. Since the Cruze is moving up in size from the Cobalt and the Beat is going in on the bottom, is the Aveo moving up into the compact segment then?

Nah, it'll compete with the Fiesta. A little bigger than before to make room for the Spark, maybe, but not that much bigger.

My money is still on the Fiesta, but we'll see...

If it can compete with the Fit or the Fiesta then it will be the biggest model turnaround in history.

The current car is a real bottom feeder that is totally outclassed by everything else on the market. To expect the new version to compete with the best is a stretch.

I think the Focus will be the biggest turnaround. Unless Fiat starts importing Alfa Romeo Sebrings.
