Silly Pony-Car Colors at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show

pink challenger.jpg

We know all about the historical precedents of wacky, crazy colors on muscle and/or pony cars. But really, is it necessary to offer colors inspired by bass boats and nail polish? No sir, it is not.

To each their own, we guess. But, which is the more hideous of the two new colors, the Furious Fuchsia on the Dodge Challenger? Only 400 fuchsia Challenger SRT8s will be made and there will be a limited supply of fuchsia R/Ts. Or is the more terrible of the two new pony-car colors the metallic-flake green that has turned this Camaro into quite a silly-looking car?

Only a Viper can get away with that kind of green. The camaro looks ridiculous.

I actually like the green but not so much on the Camaro.

Furious Fuchsia is definitely the uglier of the two, it's like three shades away from Mary Kay territory. Oh, wait, I get it now, I think they meant "Fierce Fuchsia".

Green > Fuchsia

Taking design cues from toys...
Furious Fuchia looks like a Barbie toy car.
The metallic flake green looks like a Hot Wheels toy car.
I'll take the Hot Wheels over the Barbie.

Just for kicks, see the following picture links...

"Fierce Fuchsia"
That is so fierce... ROFL
(I didn't watch that show. My wife did.)

Only 2 cars can get away with that green, a lambo murcielago and a dodge viper

Yuck on both colors!

I know quite a few girls who dig that pink Challenger. Now they don't need to paint it . Just lower, kickin' sound system, wheels...

Here is my theory about muscle cars and bright colors:
Imagine a man who is uncomfortable about his sexual identity. A man who will not shake had with a gay guy and won't go to the gay club with his usually ugly girlfriend even for free. So, to prove to his friends that he is not gay (for some reason there is always a doubt) this guy decides to buy a muscle car. "Yahoo!!!!" But then another problem arises. Girls don't like muscle cars! And to solve this tortured men's soul a dealer shows him this beautiful pink Dodge with shiny rims. Now, every girl turns her head and smiles every time she hears a horn. The Bud Light is flowing the tires are smoking we'll meet for the NASCAR at the bar called Rookie!

I'd like to have both sitting side-by-side in my shop. Imagine how impressive the two colors would be together?!

Furious Fuchsia is very nice on the Challenger. Quite pleasing to the eye. Would be a great NASCAR color. It is not historically accurate in color or name.

Panther Pink was licensed and Furious Fuchsia is not, perhaps Fiat saved money by not using the name. Also, there is less pink and more purple in the Furious Fuchsia.

I'm not a fan of the Camaro in whatever color green that it is. It looks like it might be somewhat lighter version of Rally Green.

Verdoro green worked well on the GTO, there are just too many unpleasant shades of green.

To F1, you are wearing a pink shirt right now, aren't you?

speeder31 says:

To me the pink is kind of attractive. Wouldn't buy it, but don't mind it. More of a Plum Crazy kinda guy, anyway. Haha, and yes, I wear pink shirts.

The green makes me gag. That Camaro looks like a disgruntled lizard.

Ha-ha, I got one. Pink with the white bunny on it:)))) I wear it when I got to repair something.

Fuchsia's fine if a woman drove that car. I actually think the green's ok... distinctive. Although I'd probably not own it myself.

I love, love, love these bold, bright colors...they don't work on every car, but these colors work on these cars. I really wanted Rave Green on my first GTI back in 2002 but there was only one in the state...settled on Indigo Blue, which was nowhere near as exciting. Green is, IMO, an underutilized color for cars (particularly bright, vibrant greens) and I'm digging the plum and the fuschia challengers.

No, I am not a girl.

I quite like the green, although I don't think any color could make the Camaro look good. It reminds me a little of Cayman Green, back when the GTI still came in fun colors instead of a 5 shades of gray. plus red offering the only spark of personality. These cars are not limousines or minvans; they should come in colors that say something different than "I'm a pussywhipped salaryman." Of course, that was easier in the heyday of the cars these ones imitate, when a palette of 15-20 colors was common, instead of the half-dozen typical today. And the interiors could be color-coordinated; a seafoam green '68 Mustang could be had with a two-tone, medium and light ivy gold vinyl interior. Sharp.

I love the green. Cars need more color. Beige should go the way of Toyota.

Honestly, I like the green, I can see it being a good color for the Camaro, compliments the Yellow and Orange availible... I prefer cars not to be boring colors, silver, white, etc....

The Challenger on the other hand... Its to much.....to bright.. I want to see this Plum crazy color I keep hearing about though.... That probably looks better than, as some one mentioned, a Barbie car.. M/M

Not to be bashing on homosexual people at all (seriously), but the pink Challenger looks like the gayest car i've ever seen. I'm guessing that if you show up in the pink in middle Alabama, you are asking to be shot.

stephen987 says:

I like both colors, and I hope never to see another greige Camry. The green on that Camaro might even be a better color than Plum Crazy or Detonator Yellow. All of them are better than the Mustang's Grabber Blue and Sunset Gold.

I'd buy the green but not the pink. Either way though I love the attempt at using actual colours for a change. I'm so tired at countless silver and beige cars with grey interiors. Zero imagination.

You don't buy these cars to fly under the radar.

In the long run Pony Car Wars, Ford Mustang has set the standard by which all others aspire. Having sold more hands on the old Camaro F-Body (to say nothing of import-nearest equivalent, the Nissan Z), Ford prevailed only in the muscle coupe segment to decline over much of the last decade. pony car, but can not succeed alone, and the Mustang could not keep your proof of purchase even more ... there should be some competition. Now, instead of fighting for the pieces of a segment of the reduction of Camaro, Challenger and Mustang were able to increase their sales and revitalized by the resumption of Pony Car wars. While our volume simple projection shows the Camaro on the road to take the crown of the Mustang pony car, the short-term trends indicate a battle near the goal this year. Hit the jump for the comparison of the summer sales.
