Care to Guess the Top-Selling Vehicle in America Last Month?

Thumbnail image for 09.honda.fit.f34-1-thumb-717x477.jpg
We'll give you a hint: It's not one of those small, fuel efficient cars that were all the rage six months ago. In fact, only three of the top ten vehicles are considered small cars.

Give up? Don't care? Either way, you should click to the next page to find out what's on top as it's sure to be the topic of more than a few misinformed office conversations in the months ahead.

Hey, what do you know? Americans still like trucks after all, but midsize cars are right up there too, so it appears as though America needs both.

The real hole in this list is the lack of SUVs. They topped lists like these not too long ago and now they've been chopped up into so many tiny segments that they don't even show up anymore. Probably not a bad thing.

Thats a lot of Altimas! No wonder Nissan isn't giving us much in the way of a redesign.

Amazing the Civic is still selling well considering it is time for an update. Not surprising there are no small cars on the list. We generally don't like small cars. explains why the Civic and Corolla have grown so much over the years. It will be very interesting to if the Fiesta can buck history.

A few observations.....

-More Cobalts than Fusions sold? I guess low price is important after all.
-Malibu is selling strong even though the Impala cuts into sales a bit.
-Can't believe 19k bought the hideous Accord. Wow.
-Not surprised that trucks are selling well, with several feet of snow across the Northern US.
-Wonder what February sales will look like for Toyota. I'm thinking they will NOT be good.

the CR-V usually ranks pretty high on these lists but its sales are stalling lately.

By US standards the Corolla, Civic, and Cobalt are all small cars.

Maybe my opinion on GM's plans to go full steam on Cruze production are wrong after all.

Um, the Cobalt, Corolla and Civic are economy cars.

And Altima, Fusion and Accord are seeing a bounce as the media does a two-step on Toyota.

I wonder how much boost the Fusion got from all those awards it's won recently?

Don't bash the commodity car buyers. They are the ones that provide the profits that manufacturers use to build the relatively low volume enthusiast cars so many IL readers love.

So the Malibu outsells the Fusion. Thinks are finally going back to normal. I love the Fusion, but the Malibu is simply a home run. It should have outsold the altima. What's with the slow small car sales?! If America doesn't want to be in the same situation as two years ago with $4+ gas, then we better get used to these gas savers. The Civic is still the best looking small car on the market, so sales should be strong.

But how many of those Corolla's and Camry's have come to a complete stop yet? Thank you, I'll be here all night.

Glad to see the Malibu up there.
I honestly thought that the Fusion would be higher than it is, even above the Malibu, but sitll top 10.

I just am dumbfounded that the Fusion is behind the Malibu in sales. The Fusion is Amazing after its refresh. Especially with the defunct Impala sitting along side of it. Kudo's to Chevy!

For the Corolla and Camry this is a significant drop. Props to Nissan (I am a Loyal Nissan follower). The only surprise is Cobalt > Fusion? Seriously? and I thought the Civil would do better then the Corolla because of Toyota's fiasco.

In my area GM was given huge price cuts on Cobalts and Ford was not on Fusions.

I like the Fusion but I would buy a Malibu first.

I wonder if GM sold more then 1195 GMC Sierras? I'm tired of hearing the F150 is number one when it often isn't.

Surprised the Mazda3 isn't in the top 10. I'm used to it always being at or near the top.

Gas is relatively cheap, so no surprises.

stovt001 says:

I don't think Impala should really be cutting into Malibu sales. I couldn't understand why anyone would buy one over a Malibu, so I'm assuming they're mostly going as cheap fleet sales.

Considering all of the gushing press they've been getting, I'm a little surprised that no Hyundai's got onto this list...

roadburner says:

I could see owning a Civic Si or a Fusion(that's only if Ford would build an SHO AWD version). The rest of the list would never be the faintest blip on my radar screen.

They called it Sport rather than SHO. It's not an ecoBoost, but it's not bad.

brn;

Yes, it's a nice car, but I want to see at least 300 bhp in that platform.
