We don't have any solid evidence that this car did actually run a 8.63 since there is no track side timing board, but let's just say it was going quite quick shall we? If anything, this video is a tribute to car control as the driver of this heavily-modified Evo IX not only keeps it straight after a huge launch, he manages to keep it out of the grass after pulling the chute too.

This Evo does look quite difficult to control (a real animal). If anyone is wondering why he still was going full throttle after he pulled the chute the answer is you have to or the car will become unsteady.
Here's what I have found:
The AMS/NOS Team has been anxious to break the world record once again for the quickest EVO 8 after the last outing in Englishtown. Shifting into fourth gear the car began to misfire but Jones managed a 8.63 @ 167 mph. The team was surprised that such as easy run netted such a quick time and was eager to diagnose the problem. In the pits the team went over the logs from the AEM engine management to determine the source of the misfire. The log revealed a voltage loss at the top end of the track. With time running out the AMS/NOS Team was forced to pack up for the day without being able to further diagnose the shifter linkage trouble or the loss of voltage.

It was the third time i ever needed to use the chute. So i was some what in the deepend learning how to use it.. The first pull the boost was down and i didnt really have a great run anyway so was going to slow for the full effect of the chute.
Then the second run that took ten years off my life, I pulled the chute, then went to pull it again thinking i didn't pull hard enough for it to deploy. Just as i was doing that it fully deployed then yanked the car to the other lane.. I was pretty well shaken up..
You've seen my next run i was told to power into the chute but i didnt, i took my foot off the throttle as i pulled the chute, I tried to get back on the trottle but that upset thing a tad. So braked hard. Since then the chute mounts have been lifted up and deploy it with a button on the steering wheel..
