Tesla Quietly Delays Model S to Early 2012

tesla-models-actf341.jpg
Tesla held a press conference at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show on Tuesday. It used the occasion to show off the 1000th roadster off its assembly line and give the Model S sedan a proper auto show debut.

Many of the journalists in attendance expected Tesla might finally announce its choice for a production facility. That announcement never came, but Tesla's CEO Elon Musk did note that the Model S is now scheduled to launch in early 2012. When the concept was shown in March of 2009, Tesla said it would start production in late 2011.

Not a huge setback as car development programs go, but it does signal that Tesla might be getting more realistic about its aggressive schedule for the roll out of the Model S. Musk said to expect an a plant agreement soon.

Getting more realistic is probably a good move for Tesla.

An American car designed and built in America (better yet in my state). We can use more companies like Tesla and Fisker. I can only assume that this means the production location will be the site formerly owned by Boeing/NASA in Long Beach, but I can only speculate.

Wow...a car that so far looks totally impossible on paper....is delayed. Big shocker.

They don't even have a factory. They're still overly optimistic.
