We've been patiently waiting for Mr. Attitude himself, Robby Gordon, to do something more spectacular than this since Dakar started almost two weeks ago, but so far...nothing. This little display of testosterone happened on the Dakar start ramp before he even hit the stages. Forgive the amateur-photographer-in-the-crowd camera shake, but it does capture the moment. A longer, more civilized version after the jump.
Gordon is currently tenth overall after being haunted by many tire punctures and problems with his "Hummer's" tire inflation system. Still, this display ranks him about 50 places higher in the coolness standings than VW driver and fellow American Mark Miller who is currently third. Former World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz leads with three days remaining.

Cool yes, but also completely irresponsible. Lucky for the crowd of people at the base of the ramp that this guy wasn't going a little bit faster...

I remember when he spent several years driving for Walker Racing before Derrick hired Gil de Ferran to drive for him.
He was featured on the cover of IndyCar Racing II/CART Racing for the PC by Papyrus.

I still hold the world record for California Speedway lap times for this sim/game. :o)

if you get a chance watch the entire video. One of the Rally officials asks RG to do the jump, RG assess the situation and does a pretty tame jump.
Go Robby! The only true American Dakar Effort!

I had to dredge up my high school German to listen to the second video......and forget the Italian! Kind of reminded me of a WWll newsreel.
