#NAIAS
Today, during the Detroit auto show, an unnamed source within Nissan confirmed exclusively to Inside Line that the company will begin to sell a two-door convertible version of its Murano crossover later this year.
Inside Line reported the existence of the Murano drop top in Nissan's product plan more than a year ago, but rumors began to fly that it had died on the drawing board, a victim of the hard economic times and Nissan's need to focus on core market segments.
But those rumors are false. The Murano convertible is a go. It'll have a folding soft top and should be at Nissan dealers by this time next year.

Congratulations Nissan! After that last redesign, I didn't think that there was any way you guys could possibly make the Murano any uglier; but you did it.

WHAAAAAATTT?? Wow that has the potential to be a fun car but not when it looks like that. If the Murano werent so alien-looking it would definitely be on my "must-have" list.

There are bad decisions and then ones like the Pontiac Aztek and...this. If it ever happens I hope that designer is kicked in the yoo-hoos.

This has got to be a joke?!? Who gave the green light to this project? Nissan must be flush with cash to make a luxury Jeep Wrangler with no off-road cred. Please re-run this story on April 1st!!!

What a terrible-looking vehicle. Is Nissan asleep at the wheel? Who is actually going to buy this thing?

since the reasons to hate this vehicle have pretty much been summed up, perhaps someone should point out the reasons to love this vehicle:
i love the ridiculous vw cabrio picnic basket b-pillar
i love that they included the giant awkward b-pillar, but still felt the need to remove the rear doors
i love that on a car that big they couldn't find a better way to store the top, then the adorable baby carriage style that sits above the tailgate
i love that one could imagine, that is, if this car were able to handle something slightly more rugged than a well paved speed bump, one could imaging just backing this baby on up to a lake shore and fishing right out the back of it, or perhaps attaching a tow rope to the b-pillar and pulling a skier
i love that even a car as hideous as the nissan murano had decent fascias when it first hit the scene, yet they immediately switched to these god awful light and grill schemes, then, when they have this clear chance to refresh the styling, they stick to their design guns
i love that no matter how few people buy this car, and how many voice their disgust, it won't stop the auto industry from making piss poor judgement calls like this
and i love that, without all that pesky roof and window in the way, i will now be able to easily spot and remember the faces of people who would actually buy a car like this, and they will more easily be able to hear me mumbling the word, "idiot" when we are next to each other at a light
then again, this is clearly just a photoshopped image, and the actual car could look nothing like this, but a luxury "suv" convertible should still require all owners to register sex-offender style, the car should be required to carry the badge "aztek edition", so unsuspecting consumers don't make the mistake of being talked into this thing, and the "u" in suv should stand for useless.

Yes it does look like an alien PT Cruiser, but for those of us who wished for an ALL-ROUND vehicle that is not made by Jeep or (hopefully) won't cost over $50,000, the idea of a convertible with all-wheel drive that sits up tall so I don't have to crawl out on the ground to get out first AND is made by a company with a fairly good reputation for building good cars, I LIKE IT.
Besides I sit on the inside which I find more important than what is on the outside.
Remember the 1990 Ford Taurus, it was ugly then also, but kinda grew on people.

Ok Nissan.....what are you thinking about? A Murano and a convertible top are just not two things that mix well. A Murano was designed to be a practical (and quick) family hauler, not a 2 door convertible. The idea of being a true family vehicle and practicality just went out the window with the addition of a convertible top and losing two doors. Nissan would have been far better off to invest some money in a Murano Hybrid. Additionally, I really have to wonder if there is a market for this vehicle because quite honestly I think it will be a flop. Nissan has been turning out some nice vehicles the past few years, including the new Maxima and the 370Z. If they were going to do something similar to an Xterra (removable top on back like a jeep) and make it into a beach vehicle it might make more sense. With that being said, here is a memo to Nissan: keep up the good work, but please fire that product designer that came up with this idea, and while you are at it, please also fire the guy in your Infiniti division who coined the G25. I rest my case.
